I made this video a while ago only just remembered to post it here! Song is You're the Top sung by Ben Barnes. Another fun fact about this song is it is originally from the musical 'Anything Goes' in which PG Wodehouse is credited for writing some lyrics...

Am I delusional or did Bertie once describe himself as being 'safe in taxis'?

Jeeves and Wooster Sketches

Basically this is what happens. I know they're hard to see but I'm too lazy to use my scanner & thought you lot would be interested in seeing these.

My style for these two often change depending on whether i've recently watched the tv series, read the books & other stuff.

I just finished episode four of last year's Blandings TV series, and I was wondering if anyone else has watched it, and if so, what they thought? The more I see, the more I enjoy it, but it doesn't really live up to what I want from Wodehouse on screen. I'm used to, idk, tighter scripts? Tighter overall production? This feels somewhat sloppy. But it's still quite fun, and it's only three hours overall, so I don't regret the time expended in watching it at all.

I also got my hands on the 2004 Piccadilly Jim, and holy crap, did anyone else watch that film, because it was awful. The more I watched the more it was like being bludgeoned in the head with a two-by-four very, very slowly. Are any of the previous adaptations any better, or should I steer clear of them, too?

I find that Bingo is a microcosm for the whole thing, going from a gormless idiot to a total user.  Like, at the beginning you really do get the feeling that the Drones just get into scrapes and Bertie is just beneficent.  But later on, when he's getting shot at more and people are just smilingly putting him through the wringer, I start getting where all those 'Bertie is secretly a ball of angst' fics come from.

Opinions?

Apparently, the BBC plans to do a 6-part Blandings series. I thought this might be of interest to the chaps and chapesses of our fair community. Those of you who are likely to see it first, please do let us know! I'm sure it will be quite spiffing!

Hello..this is my first post. I'm shy and English is not my mother tongue, so maybe, this is gonna be my one and only post---

Anyway! Do you, lovely and wonderful indeedsir-fellows, know about the TV-drama series digitally remastered?

While watching Blackadder over the weekend, I began to wonder- what would have happened if Rowan Atkinson had been asked to play Jeeves instead of Stephen Fry. I mean, Laurie's character is much the same (yet, dare I say it- smarter? in Plum's version) and both Blackadder and Jeeves share the similarities of serving the Prince/Wooster (henceforth shortened to Prince Wooster), rescuing him from the soup, being the cleverest one in the room, coming out ahead in every situation, and being darker to Prince Wooster's light.
Now, the characters are similar, but obviously different, so if Atkinson had gotten the role he'd be playing it slightly differently than he would his Blackadder role.

But it still stands Jeeves would probably sound much more blackadderish/malicious if he had gotten the role. How much do you think that would impact the message and interpretation of Plum's stories? And as a theoretical, which would you prefer/ think is more true to the stories?

For reference, here's a bit of Blackadder:

I would do this myself but I don't have clue one how to make a fanvid. Could someone please do a fanvid to "Dedicated Follower of Fashion" by the Kinks of Bertie's various outfits and Jeeves not approving of them?

Or, if I were Bertie in an attempt to emulate Australian culture, I might say "G'day G'day G'day"

This is a heads up for Australian fans of the Fry and Laurie Jeeves and Wooster.

Did you know that on certain days of the week (it changes, like our TV execs are wont to do) at 2pm-ish it is shown on ABC1? And if that's not sweet enough, so far 15 episodes have been put up here, http://au.tv.yahoo.com/plus7/jeeves-and-wooster/ where they will remain in their high quality state for one year.

So, even though its on at a slightly awkward time, it is still enough to point friends and rellies to, to help spread the love that is Wodehouse.

What ho, what ho, what ho!

For everyone on Facebook, there is a competition at the PBS page for favourite Masterpiece Theatre character. They're well underway and both Jeeves and Bertie have been doing well. Right now, the current vote is between Mr. Darcy and Lady Violet. I'm not sure how often they are updating the battle, so you may need to keep checking in.

To vote, go here:

"Like" the PBS page and then view the comments for the status update for the current contest. Then "like" the comment that names the character you have chosen. You may well have to click the "view previous comments" to get to the actual comments you are meant to "like."

Title: A Rum Thing Indeed
Characters: Bertie, Jeeves, House

Words: 700

Summary: Bertie discovers American TV
Author note: Crossover ficlet written several years ago for [livejournal.com profile] queenzulu  and never posted anywhere. Just found it on my hard drive.

“I say, Jeeves,” I remarked. “This is a puzzler and no mistake.”

“Indeed, sir?” replied Jeeves, holding the shoe he was polishing up to the light and inspecting it carefully. There was something about the tone of the fellow’s voice that I didn’t like.  Perhaps it was the hangover I was nursing.  But it seemed to me that Jeeves had managed to fill the two syllables of the word “indeed” with something very like impertinence. And I was not in the mood for impertinence. I wouldn’t go so far as to say I was feeling disgruntled, but I was far--very far--from gruntled.

I replied with some asperity. “When I say, ‘This is a puzzler, Jeeves,’ I rather expect an offer of help. Not the implication that I am a fat-head to whom the smallest thing is a puzzle.”

Jeeves put the shoe back down on the hotel carpet and addressed me with a suitably respectful demeanor. “I regret that I gave offence sir. None was intended. May I be of any assistance?”

“I certainly hope so, Jeeves,” It was hard to stay angry with the man, and besides I needed his considerable brainpower—the man eats only fish—to help solve the current mystery. Without budging from my place on the sofa, I  pointed the remote control toward the large television ensconced in the hotel’s wooden console. “That fellow, who’s always solving mysteries—what’s his name?” I began. It was on the tip of my tongue.

“Sherlock Holmes, sir?”

“Good Lord, no. I’m referring to this chap, the medical man—there.” Jeeves turned his gaze toward the screen and squinted for a moment.

“I believe that is Dr. Gregory House,” he declared. “Star of the eponymous American television show.”

Yes, I'm up at an ungodly hour, surfing for stuff, and I've found a few useful writery links for folks.

First off, a floor plan for Bertie's flat from the TV show. If you wanted to use the Fry and Laurie show as canon, here's an excellent place for plotting character movement -- chairs to trip over, closets to hide in, and all. The only thing this is lacking is Jeeves's Lair. One wonders if he doesn't simply dematerialize briefly while Bertie is asleep. Of course, there's a small space down at the bottom right corner behind the kitchen that probably leads to a pocket dimension where Jeeves actually lives. There is accompanying discussion of the layout (and the lack of Jeevesian abode) here. None of the discussants actually comes out and suggests that Jeeves sleeps with Bertie, more's the pity.

graphic under the cut if the link doesn't work for you )

Although it's written for female domestic servants, The Up-to-Date Waitress was written about 1920 for a domestic servant who would have to take care of most of the stuff Jeeves has to do for Bertie. Some of this stuff is pretty bizarre and makes you wonder how the hell anyone ever had time to breathe. We do know, after all, that Jeeves does pretty much all of Bertie's food service and takes care of the kitchen and whatnot.

And if you want to know where all the canon locations in Wodehouse are, here's a Wiki list that explains who lives where and something about the places for your edification.
