Realized that Manning Redwood played both J. Washburn Stoker in series 2 of 'Jeeves and Wooster' and Janet's father in Richard O'Brien's 1982 musical 'Shock Treatment.'

This was the result.

Who else thought the infamous ABOFAL sketch "Major Donaldson" ended mere seconds too early? I bring fanart:

Hugh Laurie's cover of "Police Dog Blues" is the Pick of the Week at Starbucks this week. Basically, somewhere on the counter is a stack of business card sized promos with a cute picture of Hugh on the front and a code to download the song off of itunes for free on the back.

Might I suggest the Chai Tea Latte, sir?

While watching Blackadder over the weekend, I began to wonder- what would have happened if Rowan Atkinson had been asked to play Jeeves instead of Stephen Fry. I mean, Laurie's character is much the same (yet, dare I say it- smarter? in Plum's version) and both Blackadder and Jeeves share the similarities of serving the Prince/Wooster (henceforth shortened to Prince Wooster), rescuing him from the soup, being the cleverest one in the room, coming out ahead in every situation, and being darker to Prince Wooster's light.
Now, the characters are similar, but obviously different, so if Atkinson had gotten the role he'd be playing it slightly differently than he would his Blackadder role.

But it still stands Jeeves would probably sound much more blackadderish/malicious if he had gotten the role. How much do you think that would impact the message and interpretation of Plum's stories? And as a theoretical, which would you prefer/ think is more true to the stories?

For reference, here's a bit of Blackadder:

Hugh Laurie 'How Wodehouse Saved my Life'
I only stumbled across Jeeves and Wooster 6 months or so ago, so if this has been here before, let me know and I'll remove it.
That being said, I found this and felt the need to share and thought you all might appreciate.

Title: A Rum Thing Indeed
Characters: Bertie, Jeeves, House
Rating: Gen
Words: 700
Disclaimer: Don't own them. Never will.
Summary: Bertie discovers American TV
Author note: Crossover ficlet written several years ago for [livejournal.com profile] queenzulu  and never posted anywhere. Just found it on my hard drive.

“I say, Jeeves,” I remarked. “This is a puzzler and no mistake.”

“Indeed, sir?” replied Jeeves, holding the shoe he was polishing up to the light and inspecting it carefully. There was something about the tone of the fellow’s voice that I didn’t like.  Perhaps it was the hangover I was nursing.  But it seemed to me that Jeeves had managed to fill the two syllables of the word “indeed” with something very like impertinence. And I was not in the mood for impertinence. I wouldn’t go so far as to say I was feeling disgruntled, but I was far--very far--from gruntled.

I replied with some asperity. “When I say, ‘This is a puzzler, Jeeves,’ I rather expect an offer of help. Not the implication that I am a fat-head to whom the smallest thing is a puzzle.”

Jeeves put the shoe back down on the hotel carpet and addressed me with a suitably respectful demeanor. “I regret that I gave offence sir. None was intended. May I be of any assistance?”

“I certainly hope so, Jeeves,” It was hard to stay angry with the man, and besides I needed his considerable brainpower—the man eats only fish—to help solve the current mystery. Without budging from my place on the sofa, I  pointed the remote control toward the large television ensconced in the hotel’s wooden console. “That fellow, who’s always solving mysteries—what’s his name?” I began. It was on the tip of my tongue.

“Sherlock Holmes, sir?”

“Good Lord, no. I’m referring to this chap, the medical man—there.” Jeeves turned his gaze toward the screen and squinted for a moment.

“I believe that is Dr. Gregory House,” he declared. “Star of the eponymous American television show.”

Since this is the only Jooster site I follow, I don't know if I'm late to the party on this or not, but according to CBC news, Stephen Fry has been picked to play Sherlock Holmes' older brother in the next Guy Ritchie installment.

I'll admit, I'm of two minds about this.  I wasn't particularly fond of the first film, but now that Stephen Fry is going to be in the sequel, I won't be able to keep myself from going to see the second one.  However, if it's the complete arse-gravy I'm worried it might be, then I know I'll be in for an hour and a half of enduring sympathic pain and anger at the fluffy and gorgeous Mr. Fry being forced into a movie far, far beneath him.

Oh well, if anyone can salvage a bad movie, it's Stephen Fry.  Especially if he's playing an "agoraphobic oddball".

And yes, I'm still working on "Jeeves and the Incalculable Mistake".  I'm just having trouble with chapter nine, because at this point it's very hard to see why Bertie wouldn't dismiss Jeeves the minute he laid eyes on him.

There's is a Jeeves & Wooster play from First Folio Theatre, apparently.
Well, was. I'm not sure, but I believe the last performance was yesterday.

The site has some clips and pictures: Jeeves In Bloom

(Ain't that picture really pretty? I once started a comic like that. Maybe one day I'll finish it. Stupid paper. Those images are perfect to Joosterize.)

Hi everyone! I have made screencaps of an old show called Happy Families that Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie were in. They act rather slashy so I thought this community would appreciate me sharing the link. They're over here at my journal. :)

Mods, if this isn't on-topic enough, feel free to delete.

Hello comrades. I've just returned from watching Shall We Dance, and as I was watching, I was struck by the thought that Fred Astaire might have made an absolutely smashing Bertie Wooster. Perhaps it is just the vague resemblance to our dear Mr. Laurie? I don't know, but he does have rather a light and pleasing baritone.
This, of course, got me thinking more hypothetically. And thus... a question:

If you could cast the entire Jeeves and Wooster canon (and perhaps anything penned by dear old Plum, if you feel so inclined), who would you choose? Or perhaps you have just had your eye on a particular entity in a particular role for ever so long? Please share!

(Apologies in advance if this is a repeat topic. I just entertained hopes of facilitating some amusing discussion as I wrap up the next chapter of my drattedly overdue story.)

Pip pip!

A while back on here(under one of the fabulous screencap posts if elephant-like memory serves), I mentioned something about Tuppy being the equivalent of Toad from Wind in the Willows. My point, apparently, has just been reinforced through a comment on one of my Youtube videos (Series 3 Episode 1 as it happens) by someone called "parhaatkemut".

Well, this allowed for the mind to wander back to the question: are there any other random connections you are all reminded of by the characters in this canon? (Is this relevant? Maybe not- but some of us may find it interesting.)

Discuss at your will...

I know it's been brought up on here before that I missed uploading an episode of Jeeves and Wooster on Youtube. I managed the whole series BUT the infamous one where Jeeves and Bertie appear in drag. Why? Because I don't have it, quite frankly. :)
So I just thought I'd mention that the kind and curtious provider of all things Stephen&Hugh good on Youtube, DontTouchMyTea, has remedied this defect and S4E4 now lives with him/her.
So, erm, there you are I suppose.
(Did anybody else realize that Fionna Gilles was in "Hound of the Baskervilles" on Granada? Well, I was surprised... anyway...)

So, I was just lucky enough to go see Spamalot.  (hurrah!)  I went and sat down in my seat to flip through the program, and lo and behold...

...the very first actor listed, playing King Arthur, was none other than Michael Siberry.

That's right.  The man playing King Arthur once played Bingo Little in Jeeves and Wooster.

Needless to say, this put an entirely different (though very fun!) twist on the show.  :)

Afternoon all!
Pointed here by the wonderful purple_pen I thought I'd make a post for all you lovely people.
On friday night Miss_Meow_Mix and myself went to a musical production of Jeeves and Wooster entitled, "By Jeeves!" It was wonderful, funny and just...very well done! The characters were spot on...except maybe for Jeeves (I'm used to Stephen Fry's colourful facial expressions and tones...were as this guy was rather miserable) Gussie especially was exactly as he is portraied in the tv series o.o twas rather spooky! Anyhoo, heres a photo I nabbed during the interval.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

I am also here, rather shamefully, to 'pimp', if you will, Miss_Meow_Mix's and my own personal J&W community where we will make our posts about J&W the musical, books, caps from the tv etcetc. I myself am a very picture orientated journaler and I'm sure the comm will become so aswell. Miss_Meow_Mix has also promised to post scans of the program from By Jeeves on there shortly.
Also it will be a place were photos of us in our J&W costumes will go.

Hope some of you can join, having looked around I can say I adore this community and I hope we can all share our love of J&W :D

Soupy Twist and all that jazz.
