The year is 1967.  Bertie and Jeeves ankle about the happiest place on earth.  Some things lurk behind the scenes.

Behind the scenes on Ao3

For [livejournal.com profile] georgiamagnolia as a belated get-well.

Warnings: Jeeves is stern... and schmoopy.

I don't remember seeing this here before and a quick search didn't reveal anything...

Anyone in the market for a new alarm clock?

No more rude buzzers, please. This alarm clock wakes you first with the sound of gentle birdsong, then a discreet cough and comforting words "Good morning, Sir" (or Madam) followed by a charming and amusing message -- a different one each morning (six months worth before they start repeating). The voice is that of British actor Stephen Fry (Jeeves of Jeeves and Wooster fame).

Message sample:
"(discreet cough) Good morning, Madam. I'm so sorry to disturb you, but it appears to be morning. Very inconvenient, I agree. I believe it is the rotation of the earth that is to blame."

Today the bountiful internet revealed to me . . . the Corgi Toys car set featuring Jeeves and Wooster. My God. DO WANT!!

It's sort of hard to see, but Jeeves is driving the Bentley.

I saw this and immediately thought of Jeeves and Bertie:

They're here if anyone wants them (although I don't believe Jeeves would approve of novelty salt and pepper shakers... at least they aren't monogrammed.)

It's Amazon's deal of the day: $20.99. Pretty good deal if you haven't gotten it yet!

And I saw this floating around. Some footage from a typical 1930s English beach holiday. Thought you might enjoy, chaps!

There's is a Jeeves & Wooster play from First Folio Theatre, apparently.
Well, was. I'm not sure, but I believe the last performance was yesterday.

The site has some clips and pictures: Jeeves In Bloom

(Ain't that picture really pretty? I once started a comic like that. Maybe one day I'll finish it. Stupid paper. Those images are perfect to Joosterize.)

Hello all! I've been lurking here for awhile, I meant to introduce myself, but I didn't have anything useful to contribute, so I kept putting it off. But now I have news of a sale, so here we go! Yesterday I stopped at Barnes and Noble, and while I was flipping through sock patterns in the knitting books someone announced on the loudspeaker that they were having a sale on TV boxed set DVDs. Hope springs e, and all that, so I toddled over to the music/movie section...

And they DID have Jeeves & Wooster! The complete series set was 30% off!
AND there was an extra 10% off for members.
AND I had a coupon for 10% off an item thanks to a coupon app on my phone.

So I ended up getting the whole set for just under $40!! I’m not sure how long the sale lasts, but if you’re looking to get your hands on the DVDs this is a good time for USA fans.

Also, I hadn't seen this posted here, but I thought it was pretty funny. Richard Dawkins wrote himself a bit of Jeeves fanfic,Jeeves and the Family Tree (link goes to PDF) in promotion of his newest book on Evolution, 'The Greatest Show on Earth.' He gets the language pretty spot-on, though I'm at a loss to what to call it. Is it a Mary Sue if you're not in it, but your product is??

This is my first post on this comm, so please let me know if I've messed something up and I'll be glad to fix it.

Okay, I was just looking around on Amazon and saw that they have released a BluRay version of Pride and Prejudice (the Colin Firth one). For skeptics, they even show you some before/after images so you can see the enormous improvement in picture quality. Not only was the picture clearer, but it was also in widescreen. Take a look:

So this obviously made me wonder - if they can do this with Pride and Prejudice, why not Jeeves and Wooster? I'm not 100% sure, but I believe J&W, like P&P was shot on 16mm. Therefore, the same remastering ought to be possible.

The DVD copies of both P&P and J&W on DVD look really grainy and washed out. I had both these series on VHS for a long time, recorded directly from the TV, and the quality was honestly far better than the DVD quality. We deserve better!

I don't know what can be done to get A&E Home Video to give us a BluRay Jeeves & Wooster; the best I could think of was to send them a comment in the 'Product Suggestions' section. I urge you all, if you love the HL/SF series, to do the same - and if you can think of any other way to persuade them, let's do it! Think of the dazzling screencaps we could make!

Contact A&E with product suggestions here. It takes only a moment and can be completely anonymous:

If any of you Region 1 folk are interested, Amazon's having a British dvd sale.

The new(ish) repackaging of the complete Jeeves & Wooster is $33.49.
Amazon UK has the Region 2 (with the white cover) for £14.98.

I have the slightly older R2 version with the black cover and it was superior to the much older R1 A&E version I had, so I'm guessing the new version of the R2 is still >> the new version of the R1. But, whichever floats your boat, they both seem to be on sale.

Plus, there's almost 800 items listed on Amazon's Brit sale page, so there might be something there worth splurging on.

So I was browsing one of my favorite websites, ThinkGeek.com, when I came across this.

Thought I'd share. :)

Yes. It is.
I don't know if somebody's posted about this or not...
Somebody by the username of xinyuActor on Youtube has posted each track from "The World of Jeeves and Wooster" by Anne Dudley. This includes themes from the show (Title song, walking sequence, etc), some of the songs sung in the show (Nagasaki, Minnie the Moocher, etc) and general songs from the Wodehouse era sung by Hugh Laurie ("If I Had A Talking Picture Of You", etc).
The vids begin here with the theme song (which some love, and some detest.) and continue through seventeen tracks of slightly cheesy, commercial-y market-y fun. Then again, I often find commercial-y market-y things fun, because I'm American.

Toodlepip.

I would seriously love a stuffed frog. As in, either an actual, dead frog in a jar, or a plush animal. And I should call it Jeeves and put it on top of my bookcase.

Anyone else get these absurd ideas? Like, Jeeves&Wooster-related things they'd want? (Aside from the brilliant Jeeves alarm clock, of course, which we'd all kill to own.)

I can't remember if I posted this already, but I had intended to.

Awhile ago we were all made aware of the clock with Stephen Fry's voice in it doing valet-style messages (advertised as "more Gosford Park than Jeeves" - but we can dream a little) to wake you gently in the morning. The first version was black plastic and only had "Good Morning Sir" messages, but the new clock has a wood housing, about twice as many messages, and can be acquired with "Good Morning Madam" messages as well, if that should be one's desire. I'm jonesin for one, myself, but trying to restrain myself because I have a sad lack of money and nobody with money who I can drop hints to. But for those of you who DO have relatives with money who want to buy you things, there ya go. :) I do hope people buy them because I want this gentleman's venture to fly - I think it's a great idea and I don't want the things to disappear off the market if they don't make it this holiday season.

In fact, I might just wait for the dust to settle a little and buy one for myself.

I just wrote to the people who make the Jeeves voco clock as to the "Madam" messages being different, and the response came back:

The Madam version does have the same male messages (with gender changed) as well, of course. . . . ? --Simon Carr

I was a little perplexed by his question mark ending, and am writing again to confirm, but it looks as though we can have our snark and our gender as well. :)

ETA I asked him about his question mark ending, since I wasn't sure it:

It was an under-expressive question mark. But I meant it to mean "would that help undo some of your disappointment?" So, hooray, I'm glad it's met your approval. Best wishes, Simon

So, yes, the female clock will have the female messages but ALSO the more snarky male messages, with only the gender changed to suit.

Last summer(?), I believe were all charmed by this this nifty clock featuring the voice of Fry!Jeeves.

Ten minutes ago, I just realised that it now comes with "Good morning, madam" as well as "Good morning, sir" messages via the Download page. Sadly, I think the Madam ones are less entertaining than the Sir ones- far too much praise for the fashion sense. I thought that's why we need Jeeves!

Darn it, I like a rousing snark to wake me up in the mornings.
