OMG you guys, OMG OMG OMG! Remember my series of vintage Wodehouse illustration posts? (The last one I did is here, and I think that has links to all of them.) Well, I just found an amazing website that not only has transcripts of pretty much every Wodehouse work published in a periodical before 1923, but they also include all the original illustrations. Check it out.

Believe it or not, I think I have actually found an illustrator who has an even worse grasp of what Bertie is supposed to look like than old Skidmore.  Meet Tony Sarg, illustrator of a couple Jeeves and Bertie stories published in the Saturday Evening Post. Yep . . . Bertie is the slouchy one with the glasses.

Given that our comm has a set of bookmarks there, I thought this was important info. [livejournal.com profile] seticat has the info here:

http://seticat.livejournal.com/265744.html

We might want to make sure everything on this list is tagged in the comm.

The plan was not to announce this until everything was all done and shiny, but since the vast majority of it is public and I think people are using it already, might as well!

Yes, Joosterdom (and Wodehousedom in general), we have an extensively and specifically tagged archive-in-progress of links to fics, art, and vids!

Fair warning, it is not finished. There are gaps. Some things are a bit messy, some stuff missing tags. But there are over 700 fanworks bookmarked with more and more being added!

Er, I don't know if anyone's noticed this, but the other day I toddled over to frenchowlssayqui to look for a fic I liked, and...well...something evil's happened!

It's all like, "The domain name has expired!" and I'm all, "wtf? OMG!" and so...does anyone know how to, like, get our archive back, or do we all have to weep tears tears and more tears of pain and stuff?

...yeah.  -cough-  (I hit 41k on my NaNo yesterday.  My brain is even more dead than usual.)

I have a very exciting announcement to make about the Indeed, Sir Archive!

Starting May 05, 2007, authors and artists will be able to access their account on the archive.

This means you'll be able to add links and information for your own J&W work, if you so choose. All submissions will have to follow our posting format, and they will be looked over by a site admin before they appear on the site. However, this means you'll be able to keep your information updated to the minute, and you'll have the benefit of having a registered account. With a registered account, you can save your favorite story links, leave reviews for other authors and artists, update your member profile and more! If you're an author or artist in our archive, you already have an account. All you need to do is fill out the following form, leave it as a comment to this post (or email us: whathojeeves at gmail.com), and a unique password will be emailed to you, as well as an outline on our posting procedures/format. After you log in for the first time, we suggest changing your password.

Author/Artist Account Activation Request Form )

Even if you do not wish to activate your author or artist account, links to your work will still be added to the archive. I apologize for not making any updates during the month of April, but I am in the middle of moving out of state and finals for the semester are swiftly approaching. The archive will be extensively updated in the coming weeks, and should be regularly updated following that. In addition, I am looking for one or two more volunteers to regularly update the archive with story and art links. Volunteers will be emailed about posting procedures/format and will be given admin access to the site. Just leave this form as a comment to this post (or email us: whathojeeves at gmail.com).

Volunteer Form )

Coming soon: non-authors or artists will be able to register on the site so they may save their favorite links and leave reviews for authors and artists!

Indeed, Sir: A Jeeves & Wooster Archive is now officially open!
The archive is located at http://frenchowlssayqui.org/indeedsir.

The archive contains links to almost 400 stories, 135 pieces of art, ten poems/songs and five fanvids. We have archived the entirety of [livejournal.com profile] indeedsir, the stories posted at [livejournal.com profile] fryandorlaurie, the stories at Slash Cotillion and some other archives and author sites on the internet. We're still out there looking for more stories and art, too.

I have to give many thanks to my co-admin [livejournal.com profile] msliz4857. She's been absolutely wonderful and without her I doubt I would have been able to get this project off the ground fully!

Well, I've forged ahead with the plans for an off-site links-only web archive of all things Jeeves & Wooster. The archive will be located at http://frenchowlssayqui.org/indeedsir and will go live on February 20! (barring any unfortunate circumstances)

The archive will be powered by eFiction, an automated archive (open source) software. This will make it very easy to search for stories and artwork by author/artist, title, category, length and/or rating. Each story or artwork includes a summary or the first line of text from the story if a summary was not provided.

Unfortunately, you won't be able to register as a member (which eFiction provides). I tried to think of a way in which it would be possible, but with so many "member accounts" for each of the authors/artists I haven't been able to come up with a viable option. At current, only volunteers will be allowed to register. Speaking of volunteers, is anyone interested in helping out? You would be helping me out quite a bit: volunteers help me find new stories and artwork, add story and artwork links to the archive and are (semi-) involved with archive maintenance. You can leave a comment here or send me an email at whathojeeves@gmail.com if you're interested.

Also, if once the archive goes live, you find that a story or art piece you like (or one you created!) isn't listed, you're more than welcome to submit a link to the archive.

So, that was my teaser! More detailed information will follow when the archive is launched officially.

I've been lurking around for a while, but now is as good a time as any, really, to make myself known. Hallo!

As everyone in [livejournal.com profile] indeedsir knows, we've been having a devil of a time with this business of a comprehensive archive for all the Jeeves & Wooster stories out there. [livejournal.com profile] msp_hacker has compiled a fairly extensive list of links for the fic out there. [livejournal.com profile] mechanicaljewel has compiled a download-able archive of fiction. I'm not trying to negate the great efforts of these people. I've used both to great acclaim. However, I'm a bit of a nut when it comes to cross-reference and organization. As it happens, I've come up with an idea of my own. I have webspace available, time, a decent knowledge of PHP and a friend whose got a knack for web design.

What I'm aiming for is an archive that is wholly comprehensive. So, I've been going about collecting information for a Jeeves & Wooster Links Archive where someone can look for stories and art by author, story title, rating or genre. The stories and art themselves would not be hosted on the site. What the archive would provide is an extensive list of links to as many, if not all, the Jeeves & Wooster fan-made material on the net. There would also be author information (such as their livejournal name and/or an email address) and story/art information (such as summaries, warnings, ratings, length, etc.). I want the material to be as easily accessible as possible.

So, what do you think?
[identity profile] mechanicaljewel.livejournal.com
Remember this post where the links to, and the links to all the links to, all the Jeeves & Wooster fanfiction ever were posted, and that satisfied the immediate need for an archive? But we still agreed we needed a regularly updated archive. However nobody really seemed to have the time, money, server space, and/or skills for a web-based archive. Soon thereafter, a solution was born in my head.

Instead of a web-based archive, the answer lay in a hard-drive based archive! Using the links from that post, I managed to flesh out my own personal archive, organized by author, which I put into a zip folder and uploaded to sendspace. However, despite my best efforts, I still managed to overlook a few fics, not to mention many new fics have come out since then. So now I present to you:

The Addendum!: hxxp://www.sendspace.com/file/yrqgfh

And If you are just joining us, or missed the last one, here is the new (hopefully) complete archive (which includes all the fics from the Addendum):
hxxp://www.sendspace.com/file/rqp7ge

Be sure to change the xx's to tt's. And of course, e-mail me if you notice any ommissions. If I failed to include some of your fics, that is entirely my fault and by no means any judgment on your work. Which reminds me-- WARNING: ARCHIVE CONTAINS BADFIC. Why? DEMOCRACY. Anyone who wishes to exclude badfic is a Communist. (Fortunately there's very little of it).

The perks of such an archive include being able to slack off and read Jooster even when away from the Internet.

I plan on releasing updates on the First of every month, as well as eventually put out archives of fanart, fanvids, and filk.

~~~
In other news, my friend Jem's Bird, who wrote the Sherlock Holmes-Jeeves & Wooster crossover, wishes me to pass on a message for her:
Hi! I just looked up your link on my fic, and was so thrilled to see that folks are liking my stuff. Unfortunately, as I don't have an LJ, I can't post directly, but please thank them for me for their kind interest, and let them know I'm furiously working to finish it (I'm hoping that I'll be done by chapter 9). I will, hopefully, also be writing a "Missing Scene" to properly end chapter 2 with a bedroom scene for the ... ahem ... discriminating reader....
Update: Chapter 8 has been posted!
~~~

So that's it for now. It's back to writing for me...

So! There was a call out for a list. Here's a list.

Just be careful, as this listing is just author and link, with no rating or descriptions.

Notes on what sites were gone though, and the dating of postings that were included from indeedsir )

Archive?

What does everybody think about doing an archive of all the Wodefic posted and linked to here?

See, this site being more or less the nexus of all things J/W, you can be reasonably confident that if it exists, it'll be here somewhere, and there's a better-than-average chance of the same for Psmith and Blandings fic, too. But it's not all neatly catalogued in the memories, or anything, so a lot of the people who're new to the fandom get stuck slogging back through months and months of old posts. I know several people got together a while ago and gathered stuff over at [livejournal.com profile] indeedsir_posts, which has often been my savior when looking for something, but that was in (*checks*) May 2005, and one or two things have been posted since. ^_^ And every time someone complains about not being able to find any J/W slash, here of all places, my heart goes out to them.

Suggestions? Volunteers to help compile a new list?

I'm trying to get FF.net to start a Wodehouse category. If you want to vote for it go here. Also I was wondering how many people in addition to writing Jeeves and Wooster write Wodehousey stuff. I know I spotted a Psmith fic here.

Hello to the comm!

Just wanted to let you know that I’ve created a C2 archive over at The Pit Fanfiction.net.

Now you don’t have to crawl through 200 pages of book-fic just to find the Wodehouse.
There are 14 stories there now; if I’ve missed any, please let me know.
