Oh, hullo. Didn't see you there.
Not convinced? Okay, I'll get to the point.

So a discussion was in bloom on this post which, we believe, should be opened to the general public (and should be carried on elsewhere rather than loitering in an unrelated post, the more to stop bothering the author of said u. p. ).

The lovely maintainers of [livejournal.com profile] ohidosay  are bright, patient, creative things who have, I'm sure, earned everyone's respect and admiration for the work they put into keeping us primed and porned and overall contented. But I fear a slight miscalculation on the sheer mass of comments for prompts which flooded the community has resulted in its current state of tragic neglect. Our beloved porn prompt is surrounded by overgrown grasses and shrubbery and ensconced in constricting vines. Its formidable appearance intimidates newcomers and gives a headache to those of our number who remember the good old days (really good old 'day', as it seemed the prompt rate went from three to three hundred practically overnight once the thing began).

Attempts have been made on the community by mods and volunteers to amend this tragic loss of a great facility that began with (well, not pure, I mean to say) but progressive, innovative, helpful intentions.

Well, what do we do about it? Brainstorming began on the linked post, but as I mentioned, the thing was recommended to be posted to the masses in general.

I put it to you fine people to aid the brainstorming process, to save our beloved adult meme.

I don't know what to suggest. I get absolutely lost in those prompt communities. Stories are buried and difficult to find. I never understood why almost everything is part of one post. Sometimes these prompt comms have dozens of pages of comments and it's difficult to sort through them to find what I want.

I keep wondering why the prompts aren't part of one post and the fills aren't brand-new posts. I mean to say, why can't the filler of the prompt respond to the requester with the word "fill" and direct everyone to a link that only has the fill? Does that make sense?

When everything is part of one post, the comm doesn't pop up my friends list when something new is added. I don't know if I can adjust my settings to let me know when someone comments on the comm; maybe that's a solution. But then again, I don't want dozens of emails telling me someone has commented on the comm. I don't have time to sort through all that and I don't think anyone else does, either.

I wish we could find a solution. I don't really look at the comm unless someone tells me there's a post I should see. I just know I'm missing plenty of juicy Jooster.

That could work. I've had to unwatch some comms, especially when they were new, because there were upwards of 50 posts per day.

Yeah, I would love to see the fills as separate posts myself. It would make the most sense to me. Everything gets completely buried otherwise.

What I'm doing right now is using the "track this" function for the prompt post -- it sends all comments (new prompts, all fills, new comments) to my inbox. That, however, is awkward to say the least.

One hates to use the harsh word 'freeloader' about those who are doubtless just enthuiastic recipients.... but!!!!

There is a temptation to 'taste all the deserts' aka to post many MANY prompts and ideas... and to answer far fewer.

Perhaps if the moderators were to suggest... again I hate to use the word rule ... so perhaps a cultural norm?... by which a prompter would get one or two prompts - then not prompt again until they had themselves responded to one.

I note this might also encourage many first-time writers to overcome modesty and share their craft/

I have to say, I churn out a lot more stuff when it's anonymous. Especially on a kinkmeme. XD

See, I'm used to keeping track of spammonster's five fantastic Watchmemes. Each one is its own entry, taken to the 10,000 comment limit, and every time the comments roll over to a new page, someone makes one for other people to reply with the urls of their fills, and a brief summary type thing. It's not exactly streamlined, but it's been churning along beautifully for far too long now.
