I find myself wondering whether Jeeves was at all surprised by Bertie's reaction, or whether he planned it that way all along. ;)

Jeeves figured out his young Master's slow cerebellum needed an outside jolt to figure out his real feelings. He was, I think, pleasantly surprised by such a lively reaction :).
