I did sketches of all the young ladies (even the ones who rarely get drawn, like Rosie and Corky), but then I saw that they were too generically pretty and even with their individual features they still all still looked too much the same somehow. That's boring for me. Bertie, why didn't you hang out with more plain/odd-featured women? I still plan to draw the ladies, but I want to make their appearances a bit more unique and distinctive first, so that will have to wait a while.

Until then, have some Jooster.

First a scene from "Right Ho, Jeeves". Jeeves discovers the mess jacket, and he is not pleased. I usually ink first, then color, but this time I did most of the coloring first, with minimal cleanup, which is why it's less precise than usual.

It's usually taken for granted that Jeeves is taller than Bertie, but I've been thinking about it for a while now and based on what meagre evidence there is* I'm starting to think Bertie may be the taller one. So I decided to experiment with that for these next two pics. I'm really liking it. :)

*Bertie describes himself as tall, but says Jeeves is "tallish". Jeeves is referred to as tall in "Ring for Jeeves", but that's in a general sense, not in comparison to Bertie in particular.

Oh nomnomnom.

Yeah, I think Fry and Laurie skewed some of our personal perceptions of their heights being that they are 6'4" and 6'2" respectively.

But I've always imagined Jeeves to be stout; not in a portly fashion but far more Vitruvian and evenly distributed, whereas Bertie makes me think of a scarecrow that never got his brains.

I think like the word 'solid' for Jeeves.

I agree, (stereotypical) valets, especially in Wodehouse world, are impressive but not fat (especially if they climb trees and beat up policemen lol) while butlers are solidly, comfortingly fat (but in a stately, impressive way, not a 'jolly' way). I think the extra notches in the belt are an honor that comes with age among servants for Plum.

I like to think 'sturdy' for Jeeves in a tall way ;)

I totally read that as 'sordid'.

Which is also a good word for Jeeves.

I prefer "Greek god." But that's just me. *is very late to the conversation*

Oh, late is fine, one should always have one's say. :)

I'm reading Stephen Fry's second autobiography, right now ("The Fry Chronicles") and find it sadly ironic that one of the overarching themes of his life was that he felt (probably still feels) that nobody could possibly find his body attractive, really.

Why you gotta give me these ideas? Bertie the Scarecrow, Jeeves the Tinman, and Spode the Cowardly Lion are all now dancing about in the eternal green of Oz.
