Some art and a question

erynn999 was hoping for some naked Bertie & Jeeves, so here they are. *cue burlesque music*





I did a gradient on the background, and didn't notice the stripy effect till it was too late to fix. Grrrr...


Have some golfing Bertie. I did this when I was trying out my different inks.

I've been keeping an eye out online for photos of men who look as close as possible to my mental image of Bertie, so that I could point to one and say "There, that's what I see him looking like in real life". I've collected many pictures of men who look similar to him in one way or another, but it wasn't till yesterday that I found a near perfect match. I did a bit of manipping, adding a suit & hair (the man was bald)...and it turned out he bore an unsettling resemblance to one of my cousins, who is not someone I want to be reminded of in porny situations). All this is to say that my mental image of Bertie is currently undergoing a slight shift, for that reason among others. It seems my mental real-life Bertie just doesn't look as close as I thought to my drawn Bertie. He'll probably be undergoing some subtle alterations in my art now.

So, this whole thing got me wondering: what does your mental Bertie look like? Is your image influenced by fic? The tv show? For me, the consistent features are a lean face, prominent nose, slightly receding chin, large blue eyes, sunny smile, hair anywhere from golden blond to sandy brown, nice looking but not in a head-turning way. The details keep shifting, though, which is very frustrating.

Well, in "Right Ho, Jeeves" ch. 21, Madeline compares him to Cyrano, and he says "I felt the old beak furtively. It was a bit on the prominent side, perhaps, but, dash it, not in the Cyrano class." There's also some possibility that he has a bit of a fish face like Gussie, whatever that implies. I'm not really sure exactly what a fish face is supposed to look like.

I think, regarding Jeeves, the phrase "bronzed and fit" is both a literal description and a turn of phrase. We have enough indications to assume that Jeeves is a good-looking man, and Bertie does say in the first story that he's "darkish". Stuffed frog...I think that means that he looks stiff and expressionless, but like you I'm not sure.

I remember that Catsmeat told poor old Bertie in The Mating Season that he and Gussie were "practically twins" or something along those lines, but I got the impression that Catsmeat was just trying to get a rise out of Bertie. In the same book, Bertie said Gussie looked like Lester De Pester (http://www.barnaclepress.com/cmcvlt/Betty/betty190712.jpg), who certainly doesn't match Bertie's physical description (such as it is) at all.

I agree Catsmeat wasn't being completely sincere there, but there's also a bit in "Episode of the Dog McIntosh" where Bertie hears that Mr Blumenfield's kid will be coming over and he remembers that the kid accused Cyril of having a fish face. He says that if the kid tells him he has a face like that, he'll clump him. Jeeves says "Perhaps the young gentleman will not notice that you have a face like a fish, sir"; Bobbie says they "can't just trust to luck...It's probably the first thing he will notice."

Bingo (while in disguise as a socialist) says Bertie has a face like a motor mascot, but I don't have a clue what that means.

Hmmm...I don't know, I can sort of see the Lester De Pester connection re: Bertie, if you think of him as a very exaggerated and homely caricature of Bertie's features.
