Hallo, all! I have dropped in briefly to share some Wodehouse-related joy with all and sundry :) There is, in my opinion, never enough W.r.j. in the world.

1. In recent conversation with my grandfather, I mentioned what books I was reading just now and he said, "Wodehouse? Why, I remember reading some of his stories when I was your age!" Grandfather is 85, and Wodehouse was never published properly here. Literary taste is hereditary, I swear!

2. When clearing out the bookstore's storage room, I found a few old, tattered copies of the Norwegian translation of Thank You, Jeeves and The Code of the Woosters. This is the front page. Is that supposed to be Spode and... Jeeves?!
wodehouse book

3. My friend - whom I love more than ever now - got me Summer Lightning for Christmas, and ye olde Plum, being the brilliant man that he was, wrote an absolute riot of a preface, part of which I will share here for chuckling purposes:
"A certain critic - for such men, I regret to say, do exist - made the nasty remark about my last novel that it contained ´all the old Wodehouse characters under different names`. He has probably by now been eaten by bears, like the children who made mock of the prophet Elisha: but if he still survives he will not be able to make a similar charge against Summer Lightning. With my superior intelligence, I have outgeneralled the man this time by putting in all the old Wodehouse characters under the same names. Pretty silly it will make him feel, I rather fancy." (excerpt)

How can the world ever be dull when such a man left us ample material to enjoy? :)

I gotta say, that quote is one of the most marvelous things I've ever heard.

If you are right about the subjects of the illustration, this may possibly be the fairest of all the jooster book covers.
Plum is amazing, thanks for sharing the excerpt.

I like the outgeneralling bit. I once read something where Jeeves was described as outgeneralling Aunt Agatha in regard to Bertie's engagements. I also like how he included a little scripture knowledge. A little tribute to Bertie, you might say.

Oh, Wodehouse. <3 I want to hang out with him even more than I want to hang out with Oscar Wilde, which, considering how much I fangirl Wilde, is saying quite a lot.

I would buy him as many drinks as he liked, but I would really prefer to have a tea party with him.
