Ok I just added the first disc of Season 1 of Jeeves and Wooster to my queue over at Netflix (because I want to see if the humor in the first ep seems as dry the second time around as it did the first) and anyway when I typed in J&W in their search engine this movie title came up:

Thank You, Jeeves / Step Lively, Jeeves!

It's from 1936 in which Arthur Treacher plays Jeeves and David Niven is Bertie -- and since my curiousity has gotten the best of me I added it to my rental list although I cannot see anyone playing either Bertie or Jeeves as well as Hugh Laurie and Stephen Fry do but I will try to watch this version none the less.

Here's hoping I won't regret it too badly lol!

It's mentioned in Robert McCrum's biog of Wodehouse - apparently Plum himself was prevailed upon to help tweak the adaptation of his own stories.

Just a little warning. This was very much made in 1936. Once the racist caricature showed up, I had to stop watching. So, ya know, be prepared for that.

From what I've heard, "Thank You, Jeeves" has almost nothing to do with the original book and "Step Lively, Jeeves" has Jeeves being straight-up out-of-character.

I haven't seen them yet, but I'm just sayin'.

Oh wow. I just looked it up again on Netflix and, amongst the four seasons of the actual TV show, guess what showed up on the search results?

"I Love You, Man"

Guys, Netflix is a Jooster fan.

I actually own these, and they are VERY enjoyable! The dynamic between Niven and Treacher is different, of course, than Hugh and Stephen, but Treacher's Jeeves amuses me to no end.

I've heard one of these movies have Jeeves running around with an axe. Is this true?

David Niven, really?

In the books, Bertie is a fan of Niven's mustache. =)

I apologize on all levels...i've never gotten the hang of images in comments..hope i'm not breaking any rules here. I had my computer wiped of my screencaps, but i couldn't resist making a mad dash to share with you all. So, Jeeves is masterfully wielding a club, not an axe
