Alright, I guess this is more Anglophile / British slang related than Wodehousian, but I felt like you guys would be amused so here it is.

A UK comic page of Donald Duck . . . saying "Dash it."

Dash it. Fortnight. The washing up.

From this, I assume that Donald was another of Bertie's school chums. And possibly Mickey.

Oh, you know who else had that vibe? That one Hufflepuff from Harry Potter. The kid who was going to Eton until his parents got the letter. Justin Finch-Fletchley or something.

Ha, how weird! I can only wonder if there are Wodehousian cultural translations of other famous cartoon characters. I'd love to see Bugs Bunny saying "Eh . . . what ho, Doc? Ain't I a blighter?"

So now Mickey's stuck with the washing up. Typical Donald.

Well, for some people and in some cases that might be preferable to hearing someone complain edlessly, I suppose? Though I do see your point.

You know, I once read a whole post someone made on the nature of poshness. They argued that Justin was actually posh while Draco is not, since the truly posh never actually talk about money. I'm inclined to agree. XD

And yes, this page is such a mindfuck. XD

I read this comment a bit ago, and then reeled away for days on the sheer universe-ending wtf of the Beagle Boys being pipped at the post. I was busy, sure, but that was truly the reason I had nothing to say at the time. Jesus.

...And now you broke my mind again. I can see this crossover in my head now and I hope you're happy. Bingo falling in with the wrong crowd on the island of Dr. freakin' Moreau.

Oh good heavens, I never even thought about Finch-Fletchley.... I suppose this is the problem with my HP fixation having predated my Wodehouse fixation by a good bit. Now when I finally get round to that re-read, I am going to have one more impossibly delightful thing to crow about! Much to the delight of my nearest neighbours whenever I am nose-in-a-book.
