Hi, I'm back! Hope everyone enjoyed the holidays.
I'm going to be posting more fic soon, but first I have another crop of illustrations to share.

This story was illustrated by Alfred Leete in The Strand, and it was published around the same time in The Saturday Evening Post with illustrations by none other than Henry Raleigh. Let's start with Leete:

Augh! Well, that's . . . both awesome and disconcerting.
Meanwhile, one of my favorite Raleigh illustrations ever:

It's kind of hard to tell for sure, but I don't think I see any signs of either monocle or mustache on Bertie! Jeeves isn't quite as hot as he would be in Raleigh's later work, but he's not bad. There is something a little odd going on with his hairline, though.

Leete's Bertie looks oddly haggard. Motty is just plain plug ugly.
Both Raleigh and Leete had to show the table dancing:

Interesting variation in the captions there.
Bustle-Wearin' Bouncer!Jeeves delivers the bad news to Ugly Bertie:

And finally, another Raleigh. Look closely -- there is a stealth Jeeves in the background!

Other entries:
"Comrade Bingo"
"Bertie Changes His Mind"
"Leave It to Jeeves"
Right Ho, Jeeves
"The Delayed Exit of Claude and Eustace"
"Aunt Agatha Takes the Count"
"Jeeves in the Springtime"
"Scoring Off Jeeves" and "Sir Roderick Comes to Lunch"

Date: 2012-01-09 06:08 am (UTC)Stealth!Jeeves cannot believe Motty is actually sucking on his cane. And neither can I. Be it in a drawing, the TV series, or the books themselves, Motty sucking on his cane always creeps me out. Like . . . seriously, Motty, what's up with that??
I love the second illustration, with :o Bertie watching Jeeves and the dog. Is that the dog Motty bought, which needed time to adjust to Bertie's "peculiar scent"?

Date: 2012-01-10 03:48 am (UTC)Motty really is delightfully creepy. Even the way he talks is creepy (and some of that was actually lost in translation in the TV episode). I don't know how Wodehouse dreamed him up, but I kind of wish he'd been a recurring character.
Yep, that's Motty's dog!

Date: 2012-01-09 06:43 am (UTC)In the Raleigh one with Motty dancing on the table, Motty looks more like Bertie than Bertie does.
Jeeves in the last picture is creepy! He looks like he's plotting something sinister.

Ha, very true (although he looks much more Motty-like in the last picture).
Yeah, Stealth!Jeeves is scary.
