I was just reading Ring for Jeeves and ran into a sentence about the rivers Me Wang and Wang Me.

...

Totally innocent, right?

On another note, I was re-reading Terry Pratchett's Jingo (which, by the way, features a warrior butler), and some sequences are dripping with Wodehousean influence. Prime example:

'Carrot?'
'Yes, sir?'
'I want you to listen very carefully to the order I am about to give you.'
'Certainly, sir.'
'The point I'm making is that it won't be a request or a suggestion or some sort of a hint.'
'Understood, sir.'
'I have, as you know, always encouraged my officers to think for themselves and not blindly obey me, but sometimes in any organization it is necessary for instructions to be followed to the letter and with alacrity.'
'Right, sir.'
'Untie me right now or you'll bloody well live to regret untying me!'
'Er, sir, I believe there's an inadvertant inconsistency in-'
'Carrot!'
'Of course, sir.'

Vimes' (or, rather, Lady Sybil's) butler, Willikins (and I can never read his name without thinking it sounds like a term of endearment) rejoins the army as a Sargeant, and when Vimes happens to meet him Willikins does this thing of jumping back and forth from speaking very respectfully to Vimes in a very proper accent and screaming at his men as a Sargeant should, in a different accent. It's quite funny.:)

And what about Neil's shoutouts to Plum in the dedication, and using Jeeves's hangover remedy? I squeed madly when I read both.

Also, I was at his signing in Boston, and he recced a book, The Alan Coren Omnibus (http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/1861057393/ref=sib_rdr_dp/202-4364263-6146264). He said that Coran was a huge influence on him and Pratchett, and since I trust Neil and Terry, I rec it to all of you.

The hangover cure was love. And yes, I squeed about the dedication as well. ^_^

*makes a note of looking for Coran in the library* Thank you!

*L*! I'll have to read that. Hyel's mentioned Carrot and I've read some of the other books with Vimes in them, but don't remember if Carrot was in them. And certainly don't remember a warrior butler. *G*

Just how the hell many books a year does Pratchett write, anyway? *!*!*!

At Neil's signing he said "The only way you can keep Terry from writing is locking him in a room with no pen or paper."

And then I got a flash of a scene from Quills...

Anyone who has seen that movie can understand why I don't wish to finish that sentence.

Me Wang and Wang Me. Teeheeheehee. That reminds me, I was just talking to my friend the other day and said, "I'm trying to lower the intensity on my slash goggles, but it doesn't help that Wodehouse put a character named Willie Cream in this book!"

I think the best EVER is in "Jeeves and the Tie that Binds", where Madeleine asks Bertie "Are you going straight now?" and he responds by laughing, "one of those gay, debonair ones". XD
