Huh, interesting. I can't say any of that seems particularly plausible to me either. I had also assumed that the separation in The Return of Jeeves happened somewhere in the middle of Jeeves and Bertie's canonical adventures, but I suppose the WWII setting does suggest that it actually takes place later. In any case, the implication in the story is that it's only temporary.
