As promised to
ironicbees, here are some screencaps from season 4.
I must say that I was stunned by the differences and luckily that yellow-brownish tint has disappeared!

Bertie is rather distracted by one handsome valet's bum, don't you think?
He's obviously staring *g*

His smile is so much more brighter <3

It never occurred to me that this scene was so bally dark. I love the detail on the wall and carved wood. :)

Same here, and 'oh' for secret smiles :3

Yes,I do!
I tried to stop the frames at exactly the same time, but I might be a few milliseconds off, lol.
Enjoy!

Date: 2011-11-24 07:22 pm (UTC)I kind of like the yellowy tint in the older version, though. It adds to the period feel by giving everything a slightly sepia-toned look. But I'm sure the improvement in detail is worth the change.

Date: 2011-11-24 08:25 pm (UTC)It gives it a nostalgic look but compared with how it's on the new dvd's, well... my preference is set ;)

I've got these, so I'm sure this is the digitally remastered one.
And I believe these are the dvd's for the US: http://www.amazon.com/Jeeves-Wooster-Complete-Hugh-Laurie/dp/B001V7UXG2

Date: 2011-11-24 08:45 pm (UTC)Hahah exactly! And that's why I love this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vwlJVNn3n1A) tribute video to Hugh's female characters.

Date: 2011-11-25 05:53 am (UTC)As for the dvds, I blamed my failing eyesight on there not being any interesting backgrounds. I was wrong.

Date: 2011-11-25 03:25 pm (UTC)Thank you for the lovely screencap comparison! I'm definitely convinced to order the remastered set now, even if I can only get it from the UK. (I love having a region-free DVD player!)

Date: 2011-11-24 09:36 pm (UTC)I agree there's something charmingly nostalgic about the sepia hue of the older version, but at the same time the rich, glowing colors in the remastered version remind me of art deco illustrations. I always pictured the Wodehouse universe being drenched in oversaturated color when I read the books.

Date: 2011-11-24 11:11 pm (UTC)I've never cared for the sepia tones of season 4. To me it looks not so much nostalgic as tobacco-stained and bleh. I much prefer the warm pretty tones of season 1.
