Poppys

Looking for a fic set on November 11th.

Jeeves sends Bertie out for the day wearing a poppy buttonhole. Bertie is surprised to see a lot of other people wearing poppies but doesn't understand the significance. I think it was implied that Jeeves is Bertie's minder because he is suffering from shell shock.

I think it was the same story but perhaps not, people are discussing the war at a country house and say that someone was 'never the same since he came back from France.' Bertie chips in with his usual silliness, and the conversation ends. It's certainly implied that people have been reminded that Bertie isn't all there either since the War.

I thought it was Yuletide, but it's not there.

The two stories are by the same author in the same universe, which is a crossover with Lord Peter Wimsey's universe. (That's why Bertie turned out the way he did, as I recall - the author wanted both characters to be sympathetic, and that was hard to do using Bertie's perspective.)

Green Ice by [livejournal.com profile] adina_atl (contains links to the first 3 parts) is the second story you remember.

Armistice by [livejournal.com profile] adina_atl is the first story you remember, but I recommend reading it second.

The first is Armistice (http://adina-atl.livejournal.com/103611.html#cutid1). It's the sequel to the second one you mention, Green Ice (http://www.quillsandink.com/fiction/viewstory.php?sid=1048). Both are by Adina.

Other people have already linked you, but yeah, those are mine. Glad they were memorable! *grin*

The original story was Yuletide, but not Armistice.

And I must say, they were both awesome. AWESOME. I remember being incredibly grateful that I didn't find Green Ice until like a year after everyone else, because i didn't have to wait on tenterhooks for the continuations!

These stories are indeed amazing. I really thought Green Ice was commercial standard writing. The atmosphere was disturbing because it was so realistic.

There was another story as I recall, not related, but perhaps set in the same universe. I think it was Peter Wimsey visiting his mother or receiving a visit and solving a crime as a result.
