Art and stuff...
Mar. 8th, 2011 09:54 pmFor well over a year now, I've been going through the Jeeves stories in order and taking notes. (I swear, the series is even gayer when read in order). I've only got 4 novels left before I'm done, and in the meanwhile I've started transcribing my notes. So... I was wondering if any of you would like to have access to them. The notes were taken mainly with a view to charting the nature/status of Jeeves & Bertie's relationship, but there are also dates; story contradictions; Jeeves & Bertie's various relatives; info about their childhoods/pasts; character reactions; their tastes in culture/fashion; literary references; questions & personal observations; theories, etc. I figure it could potentially be a handy resource for writers. The info isn't categorized by subject right now, but once I'm done with the initial transcription that may be my next project.
So far I've finished typing up the notes for the short stories. It'll be some time before the novels one gets done. I'm only up to The Code of the Woosters right now. But anyway, if you're interested in reading them, please let me know. I also have a tentative chronology written up that I could include.
Okay, now for some art. Probably not entirely work-safe.
This one had been sitting unfinished in one of my drawing pads since well before I had my latest idea drought. I finally got around to inking it a few weeks ago.

Here's some hunky Jeeves stripping down. :D (Should I shrink it a little? It seems a bit too large to me.)

Huh. There seems to have been a yellowy/orangey theme in the past several pictures I've done. I ought to do something with cool colors next.
Oh, also, I did a bit of reorganizing in my scrapbook, and moved some old pictures I don't care for any more to a subfolder. So don't think I've deleted them if you go to the scrapbook & don't see them at first.

Date: 2011-03-09 07:45 am (UTC)It's fascinating to see how your style has evolved trough time, and it's great how you have now found this style which is completely you and your own thing. I love it! That is one of the aims I hope to reach one day myself. The lineart is so smooth and effortless, is it hand inked or done on computer?
You have a real talent for posture, I love hunky!Jeeves and how we can see only his back but still his stance tells us so much.
I'm reminded of my old Aterix comics, for some reason. :D
And please share your notes with us! It would be nice if we could have some sort of discussion post again, it's been a while since the last one and I always find them very interesting. :)
(sorry about the incoherent babbling, sleep deprivation doesn't do good to my English)

Date: 2011-03-10 04:36 am (UTC)Only the coloring is done on the computer. I'm really glad you think the inking's smooth, because I look at drawings done with tablets and when I compare them with my stuff I see such a noticeable difference. Tablet drawings are way smoother.
But anyway. Yes, I will share! I'd love it if any discussions arose from anything in the notes.

Date: 2011-03-09 09:13 am (UTC)ii) Gorgeous art, as usual. Wicked linework. Personally, like Bertie-on-the-table best.

Date: 2011-03-10 04:37 am (UTC)Thank you! Especially about the linework. :D

Date: 2011-03-09 09:15 am (UTC)Anyway, this sounds like a lot of info, especially if you make it so people can add on their own info or interpretations or translate it into other languages. Any chance of starting a J & W wiki? Or a lj comm specific to Wodehouse, that could one day include an archive of fanfiction? I don't know if the wiki's for my other fandoms have to pay for bandwidth or what, I just know I love the edit ability and search features. I love lj, but the search features are limited.
OK, there's my uniformed two cents worth.
Thank you for doing this, and adore hunky 'come hither sir' hips Jeeves!

Date: 2011-03-10 04:43 am (UTC)I've uploaded the notes to Google docs, but the file takes so long to load and it's slow to navigate, so it'd just be easier to publish it to the web (plus I read that only 50 people can read a doc at once). Unfortunately this means that people won't be able to add comments/info directly to the files themselves, but you're all welcome to start discussion posts about anything you read, or communicate with me via e-mail/private message/however.
Thanks! :)

Date: 2011-03-09 12:26 pm (UTC)And I would love to see your notes and have some discussions going on here. I was actually contemplating starting a read-through soon for slashy or silly lines, which doesn't seem like quite the same thing you're doing with your notes, but I wouldn't want to step on your toes. Please do share them with us.

Date: 2011-03-10 04:50 am (UTC)Oh, no, don't worry about stepping on my toes! A slashy/silly read-through sounds fun. Seriously, the more fan participation the better. :D And if you see anything in the notes you want to discuss you can go right ahead with it - no need to ask me first.

Date: 2011-03-09 03:52 pm (UTC)The pictures are gorgeous — Jeeves is very sexy, what with that little hip thing he's doing!

Date: 2011-03-10 04:55 am (UTC)Thank you very much!

Date: 2011-03-09 04:21 pm (UTC)That being said, I really like Jeeves stripping down. Because Jeeves is so proper and well-dressed, it seems sexier to have him in his shirtsleeves and bare feet (bare feet omg!) than if he were fully nude. He'd totally make being fully nude into something dignified.
In terms of canon errors, I figure that since Wodehouse had been writing these stories for decades, he might have forgotten a few things here and there and didn't want to have to slog through his own work in order to find the relevant fact he needed? It doesn't seem to be something isolated to just Wodehouse, so I end up giving him a bit of leeway.
(If you could include that chronology, I'd be very happy. There's been times when I'm rediscovering the series where I end up picking up books out of order and then facepalming.)

Date: 2011-03-10 05:04 am (UTC)Precisely! I find few things sexier than a glimpse of skin on a normally buttoned-up person.
Yeah, Wodehouse did forget some things, and he said that he wasn't particularly concerned with making his stories completely consistent. At least he was better about it than Doyle was with the Holmes stories!
And yes, I will include my chronology. :)

Date: 2011-03-09 06:51 pm (UTC)And as for your art.. guh! I love Bertie's position on the table, somehow it makes Jeeves all the more dominant. And I love dominant!Jeeves ;)
I adore hunky Jeeves, I mean he's just so seductive... And I LOVE the rosie hue on his cheeks! As if this goes against all his principles, but for Bertie he will! I mean to say.. show us more Jeeves! MORE :D
Wonderful as always, thank you dear! <3

Date: 2011-03-10 05:12 am (UTC)By the way, you wouldn't happen to know where I could find the original photo in your icon, would you? I have a few pictures in my files that are from the same photo session, but I've never seen that one.

Date: 2011-03-10 02:53 pm (UTC)I do actually :)) Here it is: http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_bm82SxXu-Mg/TCMlREAeHTI/AAAAAAAAANA/a0E8MIGBfnU/s1600/hugh-280_1070988a.jpg
I think will alo post it in indeed sir just in case someone else wants it :)
I use it as my banner, for I find it such a gentle pic. I just love the position of Jeeves' hand almost over the Wooster heart... *sighs* :)
