I actually SAW a banjolele a couple of months ago, and I wanted to rush right home and post in Indeedsir about it, but I couldn't at that moment and my memory is such that I only recall things when I should be doing something else (right now I'm trying to cook a curry). So I can't recall at the moment if I ever did post about it.

Bu, it was an honest to goodness made in the 1920s tiny little banjo! The guy who owned it carried it in a ukelele case, and he said there had not been many of them made. I thought the instrument was something Wodehouse invented and that was why they changed it to the trombone in the tv series. It would have been so damned cute to have Hugh Laurie playing this instrument! But since there were so few, possibly they couldn't get one.

I love it when Indeed Sir folk get so excited about seeing the things we've actually read about. I, too, though Plum had just made up something to annoy Jeeves. Your theory about not being able to find one for the TV series is probably spot on. Any that still exist might be too fragile to use.

Thanks for the post!

Here - have one *giggle*

OK - so not a gift - but you can have a PICTURE of one. Now up on ebay - and very much one Bertie might have owned.

maybe they changed it to a trombone because that's the only instrument Hugh can't play? we already know he can play piano, guitar and drums!

There are banjoleles on You Tube too, such as:

Peter Moss - Banjolele (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CQpuloaJIO0)
William Tell Overture (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pyjFxwg0Kec)

The players are very good, but you can kind of see why Jeeves could only take so much of it, can't you, and especially as Bertie was a beginner? :D

That was great! But my head is really buzzing right now :D
Thanks.
