Delurking for a Minute
Oct. 21st, 2010 07:05 pmI have been seriously lurking here for some months and I've got to say you have some quality writers here. I see there are some escapees from Lord of the Rings fan fiction, who are excellent writers. I live to read fan fiction, but now I have something to contribute.
I just obtained a book called "Gay New York, Gender, Urban Culture, and the Making of the Gay Male World 1890-1940. It looks very interesting and I can't wait to dive in (I can picture Bertie during his stays in New York), but I thought I would give you a taste of it:
"Gay men developed a gay map of the city and named its landmarks: the Fruited Plain, Vaseline Alley, Bitches' Walk. Even outsiders were familiar with sections of that map, for the "shoals of painted, perfumed... mincing youths that at night swarm on Broadway in the Tenderloin section... the parks and 5th Avenue".
If you are interested, I can post more.
