Title: Jeeves and the Hole in Time
Author: Mice
Pairing: Bertie/Jeeves
Rating: NC17 (later chapters)
Words: chapter 1: 2,000; chapter 2: 8,600; chapter 3: 37,600; chapter 4: 25,700; chapter 5: 27,900; chapter 6: 33,800; chapter 7: 27,100; chapter 8: 8,500; approximate total wordcount: 171,200
Summary: Bertie and Jeeves set out for a walk in Hyde Park one day as Bertie attempts to escape yet another beazel. They end up in an entirely unexpected place. Whether or not they manage to maintain their sanity is an open question.
Disclaimer: I don't own a damned thing. This is all for the sake of my perverse amusement. No newts were harmed in the production of this story.
Warnings: AU, temporal dissonance, h/c, angst, misguided beazels, slightly mangled WWI history, unrequited tender pash, angst, Bertie & Jeeves povs, abuse of innocent neckwear, OCs, vaguely D/s kinks, angst, frightful relatives, backstory, newts, sick!Bertie, angst, casual use of recreational substances, questionable renderings of British law and politics, goths, and did I mention angst?
Author's Note: This story takes place before Bertie did much writing. He and Jeeves are not well-known names when the action starts. Utterly amazing beta by storyfan, random_nexus, and blackletter. You guys are champs. All remaining evil is entirely the fault of the author.
Nota Bene: At the beginning of each chapter is a link to an MP3 file for download. Please right-click or option-click (for Macs) to download the file. The music sets a mood for the chapter but the lyrics do not necessarily directly relate to the chapter's contents. Except when they do.

I got to the part about them being dumped into present-day time, and I was going to stop because I'm not usually into that sort of thing. Then I realized they were in Seattle, which is where I'm moving in a few months, so I decided to give it another chapter and see where it went, and I ended up reading the whole thing. Very well done. It was actually somewhat helpful to me personally, since I'm looking for apartments in the Capitol Hill area.

Is it? I'm seeing prices of $700-$800 for decent one-bedrooms, which isn't bad at all. Although, granted, I haven't been out to actually look at any yet.

I briefly poked around your LJ to see if you'd written more fic, and am amused to note that Joan is basically you. :P Can't find any more fic, though. Do you have an archive?

Yeah, I'm not buying for a good long while yet. You kind of have to go where the work is in my field (neuroscience research) and I haven't even been to grad school yet. Someday I'll have a lovely huge library, though, when I'm either settled in one place or have enough money to afford to move it with me everywhere I go. *wistful sigh*

So far, I'm enjoying all the questions and issues that arise about how a 1925 English (whadowecallit?) couple would be viewed/view our time and and culture. I've had daydreams about this kind of scenario and I like how you handled the AU aspect of it. That is (So far Im not done yet) just to drop them out of the sky without too much explanation of the what and whyfor it happened.

I'm surprised they haven't had a complete breakdown yet. Jeeves is such a trooper.

I loved it. I left work early with an upset stomach and this is just what I needed as I snuggled in my bed for the rest of the day. It was fun that it was in Seattle as I used to live there. I think you did a marvelous job.

Loved it. Loved the idea. Well done. Everything flowed wonderfully.

(Though I was a little disappointed J&W didn't tour the San Francisco scene a bit more, given their new emotional freedom. That place is a revelation to anyone who is just coming out. It changes people!)

Thanks for doing this. An immense effort, well done!

oh, p.s. I do think Seattle was the perfect landing for the ultimate culture/class shock and a place where J&W would find people sympathetic to the AU storyline. Great job.

I read this all in about two sittings, due to sheer awesome. I have no idea what I love most, so here is a short list: blue-haired adoptive aunts, sartorial shock, mourning for 1924, Claude and Rainsby running off together, nightmares from Blade Runner, and decades worth of new music to torment Jeeves with.

Oh, and subby!Jeeves, of course. There's always room for a plate of subby!Jeeves.

All my own kinks aside, Jeeves could easily be a textbook 'externalized self-control' bondage bottom. Him and Batman.
