What ho! I've never posted here before, but I've been lurking for the longest time.

I had to come out of lurkdom because I just saw the weirdest thing: an advert for White Castle Hamburgers that apparently utilizes the Jeeves image.
From what I saw, the advert has got a Jeeves statue offering a plate of those little disgusting burgers to some guy (not sure if he's supposed to be Wooster) sitting in a big comfy chair. And then the guy is all like, "Thank you, Jeeves" or something like that.

I was very confused.

Has anyone else seen this?

I think they're just using the name Jeeves as the "generic butler name." I don't think they meant to imply any Wodehouse connection, as I find most people know Jeeves as the quintessential butler (not "gentleman's personal gentleman" - "butler") but have no idea why. ;P

Yeah, I saw that commercial. I think they could be using it as the quintessial butler, as hoskie says, or they also could be taking it from the website ask.com.

On that note, I made a bumpersticker that reads "What Would Jeeves Do?" I keep hoping to meet a fellow Wodehouse fan, but the only comment I've received so far is "Oh, is that from like 'Ask Jeeves' or something?" Hoskie -- Is that Oscar Wilde?

I'd understand that. I was actually thinking of getting a shirt made that would say that.

You should! I've been considering learning to silkscreen, and that would definitely be my first t-shirt. If not, I might just make one with those printable iron-ons. I have to admit, I think I actually swiped the idea from the 'What Would Jello Do?' bumperstickers that cropped up a few years ago. I love me some Jello B, but he's nothing on Jeeves!

For a while I was actually considering making a shirt that says "Vote for Jeeves" (kind of like those "Vote for Pedro" shirts that everyone has now due to the popularity of Napoleon Dynamite). I have some money, so I'll probably do it.

I've wanted to make a WWJD T-shirt for entirely too long.

*covets your bumper sticker*

Yoiks! That's terrible!

But, having said that - welcome! *S* And I like the WWJD idea you guys had... one of my favorite bumper stickers is "What Would Xena Do?". *S*

Never has this icon been more appropriate. *g* Poor, poor Jeeves. (I admit that, despite the horror, I can't help but snicker a little. Because, in my head, he's wearing this long-suffering expression while handing out burger platters.)
