What ho...
I'm new to LJ and the community but I thought I'd post a couple of little drabbles that I've written. My writing skills are a bit rusty so I apologise in advance. Please let me know what you think :)

There are few things one likes to encounter in the middle of the night, but an armful of sobbing Madeline Bassett comes pretty high up the list, especially if one had had an armful of afterglow-laden paragon-like valet only moments before. As I opened the bedroom door to her frantic knock, I saw the doors of my armoire click shut, almost soundlessly. I was immediately launched upon by the blasted Bassett and had to console her unearthly sobs.
"Oh, Bertie! I was in my room next door and I could hear the most dreadful moanings and groanings, and this horrible repetitive squeaking noise! Is Brinkley Court haunted, do you think?" she sobbed into my shoulder.
I saw Jeeves peek out of the armoire, then retreat quickly as Madeline looked up into my face.
"It must be, Madeline. What else could cause such sounds in the middle of the night?"

Bertie was sitting at the grand piano, tinkering with the chords of a jazz piece he'd heard at a club the night before. Jeeves could hear him muttering from the kitchen. "E minor? E minor seventh then." It stopped after a moment, and Jeeves heard the opening notes of Erik Satie's Gnossienne No 1, an odd choice for Mr Wooster, he thought.
He opened the kitchen door to watch Bertie, who was lost in a world of his own. He was playing with such passion and such beauty. Jeeves felt mesmerised and completely lost in the piece, with its reflective and mysterious qualities, which Bertie was bringing out with an effortless ease. The late afternoon sunlight hit Bertie's golden curls and gave him a halo-like effect. He had never looked so tempting, and never so innocent either. He was putting emotions into the piece that seemed almost too deep for his usual carefree manner. The piece had a haunting quality that made Jeeves long for things he could not, must not, have.
As the piece ended, Bertie looked up. "I'm sorry, Jeeves, that was rather melancholy."
"No, sir. It was lovely." Jeeves replied, before returning to his place in the kitchen.

This is a link to the piece http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WIVp05sEPhE. Every time I play it I think of unrequited love, and so I thought it suited Bertie and Jeeves rather well.

"The most dreadful moanings and groanings!"

Good Lord, Madeline. What a goofball you are.

I like how Jeeves fits neatly into an armoire.

Thanks for the link to the music!

Very lovely! I love them both! In the first my favourite line is: especially if one had had an armful of afterglow-laden paragon-like valet only moments before.

In the second:The late afternoon sunlight hit Bertie's golden curls and gave him a halo-like effect. He had never looked so tempting, and never so innocent either. Very poignant!

Welcome to the community!

Hah! Both fantastic indeed. I absolutely love Satie, and I love that you referenced him. Very soulful stuff indeed.
Welcome to the comm! Put up you're feet and make yourself at home, because these pieces are great.

Lovely wee fics, Madeline being so naïve and Bertie muttering at his piano is just perfect : D
