Ssshhhh! *nervous glances over shoulder* my Muse is paying PARTICULAR attention to this art posting of yours. *waves frantically for you to keep it down* Shhh!
you haven't been missing much lately, the show has really gone downhill. the characters as vampires are very much in the spirit of the dark humor of the Halloween eps when the show was still good but I'm certainly not accusing you of plagiarizing them. :)
Fry's Jeeves can SO easily be imagined as a serial killer, of a particularly terrifying variety. And the rich *are* routinely described as blood-drinkers, especially in the early 20th century. This comic justs works so freaking well.
Someone posted a comment on one of the episodes I uploaded saying they were literally afraid of and didn't like Fry's twitchy, subtle facial expressions as Jeeves. They said it reminded them of psychos or some such poppycock. [[They're still tied up in my closet.]]
I think it's a combination of things. Not just his twitchy facial expressions, but the whole package: a guy that size, with that face, who *hovers* like that, - one really wonders what he did before he got into valeting. And what he does in his off time.
Jeeves is supposed to be glide-y and unphysical by concept. Fry is anything but. He actually physically projects Jeeves' utter dominion over everything he surveys - his mildly cretinous but cute master included. And there is something fundamentally psychotic about exercising total control, though the characters prefer to jokingly refer to it as supernatural, because they are under the self-delusion that he is acting at their (the upper-classes') behest. Bertie does not really have such illusions, but he doesn't find Jeeves scary simply because Jeeves seems so focused on improving his life. Bertie just soaks up the attention like a dandelion soaking up sunshine.
The deep waters of unsetttling psychological underpinnings of that sweet duo run deeper than the Mariana Trench.
You deserve to be quoted in the next psychoanalytical paper I have to write. Or if I ever have to write a character analysis of Jeeves. Point is that was a very eloquent and intelligent expression of your point of view and I thank you for sharing it. I'm in New York, mind, where a very eloquent and intelligent expression of a point of view is quite the rarity and a marvel to behold. Sorry if I gush a bit. :)
Put like that, Jeeves is a bit scary. Wasn't there some thread a long time back called "A Dark Discussion" about the scary tendencies of Jeeves? I seem to remember it referring to his utter carelessness for ethics...
I just laughed so hard my flat mate came out of her room to see what the problem was! Bertie is such and adorable vampire and the umbrella drink is quite spiffing!

Date: 2009-10-29 05:32 am (UTC)Bertie gets a steady supply of blood without having to kill people, and Jeeves gets an excuse for the bloody path he literally cuts through London.
Win/Win!
