Okay so today i had a pretty Jeevsian day.  First off, while taking roll my teacher always has us answer with a certain subject.  Flavors of candy and what have you.  Today was 'words'.  My word predictably, rather than sharing my not inconsiderable lexicon, was 'ooh-jah-cum-spiff'.  this received a collective, "Huh?" from the class and an, "Excuse me?" from the teacher (which was rather disapointing, i am in an upper level Rhetoric class, after all).  My explanation went, "It's post-WWI slang...um, used in British literature...Jeeves in Wooster?"  And of course i got the predictable, "What, the butler guy online?" as well as scathing remarks of, "Oh yes, clearly."  Yeah, i just needed to share my grief.

BUT the Jeevsian-ness of my day really centered on a Paramedic Method video on how to pare down student essays from the 'Official Style' to a more concise one, which was made by a student in UCLA in 1982, but LORD HELP ME, he sounded exactly like Jeeves if he was American.  I sat there thinking, "I am getting writing lessons from freakin' Jeeves!"  It was so distracting.  The tape was all, "The vociferous inclusions of relatively useless prepositions are clearly, though thought to be a superior method..." in a low, rumbling, polite tone of all-knowingness and i was just totally driven to distraction.  All i needed was Jeeves-voice to correct a Bertie-voice and i would have died on the spot.

That is why i was having a very gay--i mean, Jeevsian day.

I say "what-ho!" and "toodle-pip!" a lot. Luckily people here are accepting of my madness. :P

A friend of mine came back from Fall Break today wearing a black suit accompanied by, what I can only describe as, a neon-green tie. This is the guy I currently have a crush on, and my immediate thought upon seeing this after "Hey, he's back!" was "OH MY GOD JEEVES WOULD NOT APPROVE." Shows where my mind's priorities are.

Hah! I had a mental image going on, and for a moment there I was in danger of my morning apple juice shooting out my nose.

"What, the butler guy online?"

Oh, you poor, dear thing! Clearly the world needs reintroduction to Jeeves & Wooster. Perhaps a movie is in order.

I tried showing Jeeves & Wooster to some of my friends once. They sat blankly staring at the screen until I gave up and turned it off. Their only reaction was "I thought you said this was funny?"

I love them but arugh!

That's rummy, I had a very Bertie day today. I went out in my purple tights, got laughed at, and found myself involuntarily saying "toodle pip" to my friends. *smirk*

What does 'ooh-jah-cum-spiff' mean, and where can I find it in some text? I tried the bing search engine, but not much luck. Just a blog post with the title "Things aren't exactly ooh-jah-cum-spiff, old boy...".

That's because it's spelt as 'oojah-cum-spiff', probably. Meaning splendidly fine.

Oojah-cum-spiff is probably one of the best words that exist. ^_^ I applaud your choice!

I tend to make a lot of "Jeeves would not approve"-type comments regarding certain articles of clothing. My friends are used to me.

As someone who spent every day of her paramedic training dressed in clothing Jeeves would disapprove of (what's wrong with cargo pants, sweats and hoodies everyday anyways?), I approve of your post, and am sad I never got to see this video :(

I love that you called it "Jeeves IN Wooster" - Freudian slip, my dear?

LOL! If it's not too late to comment (been catching up on my backlog of this forum for weeks) - pro_prodigy needs to use this as her PC's wallpaper, just to teach them all a lesson!
