[identity profile] nox-candida.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] indeedsir_backup
So I was wondering, given the spate of "I'm looking for this one fic" or "rec something" posts lately, that maybe we, as a community, could have a sort of fic potluck (h/t [livejournal.com profile] yaspis for the idea) where you (or anyone who wants to join in) could post a link or two to a fic that you feel deserves some attention or is one you happened to re-read recently or had a particular scene that you enjoyed--with a couple of notes explaining why you're--to extend the metaphor--bringing the fic to the party. It's not necessarily that you'd have to link to your OMG favorite fic of all time or anything, and you may decide to link one of your own fics, but it could be anything. So, um, anyone think it's a good idea?

I, for one, like to some extent or another almost every J&W fanfic I've ever read, and find them all deserving peculiar attention.
Your idea, sans the personal commentary bit, reminds me rather of the suggestion that's been brought up lately, and which I wish would come to some fruition, of creating a usable fanfiction catalogue, - if only in the form of authorship tags, - so all the community-posted and off-linked stories would be easier to find and not go missing.

Besides, there is a couple of tagged general recommendation threads already.

Does indeedsir have a delicious account? I mean, I could set up a delicious and just give everyone the password...? Or anyone could. Set it up, I mean.

Agh, I was going to keep it a secret until it was all done and shiny, but I am actually in the process of doing this. I'm up to 2005 with 82 bookmarks. :/ Tagging with authors, lengths, ratings, genres, tropey-things, etc. It's all locked right now because it's sort of a mess and I haven't bundled the tags, but I will accept help if anyone's offering. :)

Not dumb! Delicious is like live bookmarks with searchable/combine-able tags. For example, I just tagged "Jeeves and the Escape" as fic slash jeeves bertie jeeves/wooster first-time oops-one-bed lucylou NC-17 1k-5k 2005 . Someone browsing the bookmarks could look for other things with any or all or some of those tags, like find all the lucylou fics or find all the "oh, my, there's only one bed!" fics, or all the fics in the 1000-5000 word range, or all the slash fics, or all the jeeves/bertie NC-17 fics, etc etc. Or look for something they've lost that they know involved one of those things. And so it goes. And then the tag bundles will be stuff like "by author" and "by pairing" and whatnot.

It's involved and probably really nerdy that I took it upon myself to do it, or maybe not since there seem to be other people wanting something similar.

Aww! *blush* Thankies!

And oh, yes! Everything everywhere that can be laid hands on. Yuletide, ffnet (even the horrifying ones), random websites (I have found strange old things from the 90s in the course of my "travels"), other challenge-fests, etc. I'm starting by just paging through the indeedsir backlog but plan for Entirety of Internets sort of thing. I'm also including Psmith stuff for now, as until recently indeedsir was the only place anyone posted it, but am on the fence about RPS and other Fry-Laurie efforts.

And I have now made the more organised portions of it public at jwfics (http://delicious.com/jwfics) if you want to peek or are considering the lending of any limbs. :)

LOL, my toes are not sensitive. I mean, with tags like oops-only-one-bed and clothing-disagreement, it's an anything-goes sort of whatsit, just trying to shove things into various categories people might remember things by and eventually go looking for.

Even just some rudimentary author/year type tagging would be a help if you happen to feel like it. I can get you login info and specifics if you want, but totally seriously no pressure.

Eek, sorry to put you in a position where you had to reveal your secret! I didn't know! That's so wonderful that you're doing that, though! And if you need help, I'd be happy to offer assistance... I love tagging, it makes my OCD happy. :)

Oh, no, don't be sorry! This may make it get done before I'm dead. :P I have now bundled most of the tags and made the less-messy bookmarks public so you can see what I've been doing. The delicious is jwfics (http://delicious.com/jwfics). If you can halfway follow my troll-logic and want to help out, which would be awesome if you even just feel like doing even some rudimentary author-tagging or whatever, I can pm you the account info.

(and that goes for anyone who feels like jumping in)

Sure, I'd love to help! I'll totally PM you! I'm at a disadvantage in that I've read less J&W fics than most, but, as you said, I'm sure I can do at least some rudimentary tagging.

And wow, what a tremendous undertaking, dude. You have clearly done a fuckton of work. *salutes you*

I think it's a pretty good idea. I've been delving into the archives myself lately. It's amazing what you can find that you missed, or forgot about.

Ooo, honestly, this seems like a great idea to me. I'd need a little time to find the fics I'd bring, but I'd love to do this.
