Researching poor houses and poverty and whatever around the Jeeves story timeline.  What is the fandom accepted date for the start of the Jeeves stories?  I'm new, bear with my meandering questions.  My head is also ready to explode after the amount of searching i did on this site for the answer.  I know it's after WWI meaning Jeeves Takes Charge must be after 1918 so that gives a lovely and large 21 year gap from when WWII started in 1939, sometime which another Jeeves story takes place where he's like fifty or seventy or some such thing.

Therefore Jeeves stories started when...?

Thanks.  If i'm just dumb redirect me to where this has previously been asked.  Or is this a kind of throw a dart at the date game and i can just pick anything?

The first story was published in 1916, but are generally placed in an undefined period between the two world wars.

This is the best policy. I think it's generally agreed that the Jeeves stories take place within a five year period, but that five year period seems to float about the whole interwar era and what few chronology hints exist in the canon are completely contradictory.

Although again you'll find no definitive answer, a good resource site is http://www.hatsharpening.com/j&w/index.html for period-related information.

There have indeed been discussions here like this before. Perhaps someone might have lnks to those posts.

Wodehouse himself described it as "a vague period between the wars".

Some of the stories take place during the Prohibition, so you might not want to start your time-line after 1933.
The stories set in America in the Granada TV series are also placed during the Prohibition.
