Or did Hugh and Stephen play up Bertie and Jeeves with as much of the slashy subtext as they could?  I mean, given that Stephen grew up reading the stories, and he's gay, it seems quite possible to me that he read in the subtext himself, just as we do.  And then Hugh obviously doesn't mind flirting with him in the name of comedy, as ABOFAL proved time and time again.

Or are you all going to hit me over the head and yell, "DUH!" ?

I always found the show slashier than the books, but I always chalked it up to the fact that it's one thing to read about Jeeves tying Bertie's tie, and quite another thing to actually SEE how close you have to be to actually do that.

That said, I suppose it's entirely possible that they did. Or maybe we're all just mad slashers. Or possibly both.

And that wonderful scene in S1e4 where Jeeves in putting on Bertie's shoes....kneeling before him with his foot in his lap....yeah. *purrs*

Yeah, and Hugh Bertie deliberately looks away at that moment, too. Restraining himself, perhaps?

*L* Great, this just made me laugh out loud and now people are clustering around the computer. ^_^

Somebody should write that

Well, if no one else picks up the gauntlet, I just might. I've been dying to write ambiguous Jooster/Fry&Laurie slash. And soon I'll be done with classes and will actually have time to indulge my baser instincts :)

In that case I sacrifice roasted plot bunnies to your brain.

Mmmm baser instincts. Mmmm Jooster. Mmmm the combination.

Mmmm. You know, that's not half an idea. You should write it.

I am now thinking it would be fun to write a FPS/RPS crossover. Like, Stephen/Jeeves or Hugh/Bertie.

^^

No "DUH!" But I agree! It's not just you. The way Jeeves solicitously intervenes to stop Bertie marrying anyone else, especially. And lovely moments like the end of S2 e4 ("Jeeves in the Country"), where the soundtrack music backs up the slashy subtext... (Bertie: "Does this mean you're back with me now, Jeeves?")

O.O I'm so glad I'm not the only one who noticed that.

Not to mention the fact that throughout that episode Jeeves is theoretically in someone else's employ, yet every chance he gets he's off with Bertie -- strolling on the beach, discussing the latest developments, outright gossiping about his rightful employers! -- as if the two of them were still "together"...

Ah, it'd take more than Jeeves being in someone else's employ to keep them from being "together" ;-)

And he'd never gossip about Bertie that way. Unless it should be to keep the other valets at bay, maybe.

Of course not! Because no matter who's paying the bills, his heart belongs to one master and one only.

my favorite pieces are from season four during the cross-dressing scenes. Those are great. But the best one is as Jeeves is taking off the woman's attire, and come out of the second room all normal. Did anyone catch the look on his face as he fixes his appearance right before Bertie turns around? Not to mention Bertie's reaction.... and I'm gibbering...

It's unnecessary for me to say OMG I LIKE SO TOTALLY AGREE (<--moronic fangirl mode)... but I'll say it anyway.

Seriously. Those 2 slash themselves in everything.

And then Hugh obviously doesn't mind flirting with him in the name of comedy, as ABOFAL proved time and time again.

YAY and hello. Lovely to have you here.

Ah, a fellow observer of ABOF&L slash. Jolly good.

Hugh: Yes, because that's not to imply that we literally
went to bed together, introduced various fleshy
nozzles into each other's warm places and then
gave birth to a pile of paper covered in amusing
sketch material, is it Stephen?

Heh heh heh.

Would that be "shaped like two men lustily fornicating" or "vaguely scythe-like"?

I think I'm going to back [livejournal.com profile] anima_mecanique on this one. They don't put much in there that isn't in the books already, but SEEING it all happen instead of just reading about it just gives a whole new twist to the thing.

Then, there are certain books I find slashier than the series as well, both from Jeeves' POV...
"I am fond of Mr Wooster, and I admit I came very near to melting as I looked at his face."
"I had no desire to sever a connexion so pleasant in every aspect as his and mine."
"For I may hope, may I not, sir, that you will allow me to remain permanently in your service?"

... as Bertie's....
"I did not care to think what existence would be like without Jeeves."
"Mingled with the ecstacy which the sight of (Jeeves) aroused in my bosom was a certain surprise that he should be acting as Ganymede cup-bearer."
"But, Rocky, old top, it's too bally awful! You've no notion of what I'm going through in this beastly hotel without Jeeves. I must get back to the flat."

And the entire final scene of 'Jeeves and the Tie that Binds' AND 'The Inimitable Jeeves.'

Yes, but don't you think that two less....connected....actors might have lacked the chemistry to translate the slashiness to screen? :-)

We are SO LUCKY they said yes!

From: [identity profile] tootsiemuppet.livejournal.com
Less connected actors probably wouldn't have gone as far as the book does, which they do. ^_^

If those lines had been in the script, they'd have done them with a flourish and had me sitting here squirming rather uncomfortably.

*glomps the both of them* You really can't imagine anybody else BEING Jooster, can you? Gah, they're so perfect.

Haven't you? I'm surprised. It's in "Bertie Changes His Mind". The short story narrated by Jeeves.

I read this one years ago, but recently, being overcome with a sudden urge to re-read it and not having the book on hand, I googled and found it here (http://dwc.hct.ac.ae/fnd/english/download/read/jeeves-changemind.doc). It's a .doc file, but you can use Google's "view as html" option if you prefer.

It's still there when I look at it (you have to download it as a .doc file).

If you can't download, try this (http://64.233.167.104/search?q=cache:O_8ITjMwqHgJ:dwc.hct.ac.ae/fnd/english/download/read/jeeves-changemind.doc+%22bertie+changes+his+mind%22+doc&hl=en). This is the Google cache of it. Let me know if it works.
