A late night conversation about some unusually pretty boy being a 'Ganymede', or, a male that trumps most people's sexuality, lead to an interesting revelation.
You see, Zeus was an active pursuer of the ladies, despite how Greek he was. But then there was Ganymede. And he went unf.
And, more importantly, he KEPT HIM.
And then my lovely companion mentioned how 'Junior Ganymede' always made her giggle for that reason. I started to giggle along, but then....
O_O
BERTIE IS ZEUS.
PLUM JUST TOOK THE SEX OUT.
Bertie is Zeus, Jeeves is Ganymede, Agatha is Hera, Bingo is Apollo(or possibly Eros), Honoria is Artemis, Florence is Athena, Madeline is Aphrodite, Spode is Ares, and Gussie is Hephaestus.
We might have made the wholeParthenon pantheon(edit,ty!), but I saw something shiny.
DISCUSS. MAKE TOGA FANART.
EDIT: I'm keeping 'toga' because everyone knows what it is and it's fun to chant.

Date: 2009-05-18 01:42 pm (UTC)I've since been asked what I was thinking, and all I can say is that Eros is a mean-spirited little bugger with dashed good aim. Those pretty dove-fletched arrows of his are barbed, and none had ever hit me as hard as the one that day. I actually saw the glint of the golden shaft, but referring back to my earlier point, it's impossible to get out of the way, so you may as well stand and take the hit like a man. Getting back to the point, I didn't think. I know I'm fickle and inconstant and fall in love with a different nymph every hour, but this was different. It hurt more than any of the others, and drove me to swoop down and snatch him up so quickly the sheep didn't even have time to scatter. I was very careful not to hurt him with my claws, and he had the sense to cling tightly instead of struggling. When we landed at the summit of Mt. Olympus I set him down gently, and changed into myself again.
"...I am afraid I do not know the proper form of address for a god." He murmured.
I just grinned and took his hand. "You can call me anything you like, Ganymede."

Date: 2009-05-18 08:42 pm (UTC)1. The word you want is 'pantheon', I believe.
2. Togas are Roman, not Greek. The Greek gods faff about in chitons and exomis...es.
Also--I totally noticed the Jr Ganymedes thing too, but I never thought to parallel everyone else! Bingo really is Apollo, lol.
Madeline strikes me more as Persephone, or maybe Psyche. Dahlia is totally Artemis, though, hunter that she is. Claude and Eustace are totally Hermes and Eros (both of those boys are tricksters).

Date: 2009-05-18 08:55 pm (UTC)2. I know togas are Roman, but I was sleepy, and knew how to spell 'toga'. Sorry if this caused you distress.
My friend and I bantered about whether Honoria or Dahlia was more of an Artemis. I think Honoria hunts, too.
Or perhaps Artemis should be whomever is the most 'boysewwww'.
I just thought Madeline would work great for Aphrodite, since she was married to the nerdy and antisocial Hephaestus, and lusted after Ares. ^_^
Should Eris be Stiffy?

Date: 2009-05-18 09:45 pm (UTC)Nice though that the Aunt Agatha thing is topsy turvy, with Hera always being jealous of the other women while Agatha, while encouraging marriage, pushes the other women forward. It's a nice compliment to the formula of hero DOESN'T want to get the girl as opposed to the traditional romantic plotline too.

I think I'll be going back to my cave. I should probably learn how to bathe before venturing out again, anyway.
