A quick question to the community: is there anywhere mentioned when Bertie or Jeeves have a birthday? I know there was a mention of Jeeves' in the tv-series, but I would like to know is there in the books anything about the season or actual date when either one has it?

Somewhere in "Much Obliged, Jeeves" or "Jeeves in the Offing" Aunt Dahlia mentioned that Bertie has been baptized on the day after Grand National. Grand National takes part in the end of March or in the beginning of April. So one can assume that Bertie's zodiac symbol is Aries. As for Jeeves, his birthday was mentioned only in TV series, as far as I remember.

Beat me to it by less than a second.

Bertie was born the day after the Grand National--so it depends on the year you decide that he was born. I used to have a listing of the dates of them (I was searching to see if there actually was a 'Wilberforce' amongst any of the horses; I checked all the ones I could find between 1885 and 1905 and there was not) but unfortunately I do not have the information available on this computer.

I do recall that I decided for my personal canon that he should be born in 1900, in which case his birth date would have been March 31.

I am mostly certain that Jeeves' date of birth has been mentioned beyond the passing exchange wherein he says it is gracious of Bertie to remember.

Jeeves's birthday was only in the tv show, and I don't believe there was a date mentioned, although if I'm thinking of the right episode, it was in August (going by the date on a newspaper Bertie holds up). There's no mention in the books of a birthday, that I'm aware of.

My comment should actually read 'hasn't been mentioned', ah...for a paid account where one might edit these errors. Of course, one has to notice them first.

*shares your wish* I don't get why LJ doesn't let all users edit comments.

In the hopes that someone will purchase a paid account merely to cover up a grievous faux pas?

I think they had to give Bertie a reason for wanting to give Jeeves a gift (Spinoza) in the show. In the book it was because he was feeling guilty about denying Jeeves a visit to Steeple Bumpleigh where the fish were currently biting. Since they had to shuffle the plots around a bit they couldn't use that particular plot point. It was a nice touch, though. I've often wondered how Bertie would have gone about finding out Jeeves's birthday.

They could have saved themselves that trouble if they'd set the episode in England. Still, I liked that offer of a birthday gift - it was rather sweet of Bertie. :)

I really wanted Jeeves' birthday for my most recent story, but had no luck finding it. If anyone else does, I'd certainly be glad to have that info.
