 What-ho, all.

This is my first Jooster drabblet. In fact, I'd say it's slightly shorter than a drabblet at a pithy 235 words, but I'm trying to get my hand in and work out the way these boys work. So far, so good.

Who knows? It might turn into something more substantial later on :)

'Til then, toodle-pip.

“Why do you do it, Jeeves? It must be a bally hard life”, I said waving my hand over my clothing and around the living room, indicating all of the magical things Jeeves does.

“I’m afraid I don’t follow. This is my job, sir”.

“No, old thing, I mean why become a valet? Indeed why become my valet? I must be a tough charge”.

Jeeves stood almost motionless, save for the uniform raising of both eyebrows an eighth of an inch, “I’m still not sure what you mean, sir”.

“The cooking and cleaning, laying out my clothes and running my baths. Handling my money and dealing with my barmy relatives, not to mention giving me a hand out of the soup so often, for Pete’s sake. Jeeves, you do everything for me without a word of your own wants and needs”.

Now, to those who haven’t the fortune of knowing my man Jeeves, his emotions are well kept behind his stuffed-frog expression, but, if you’ve been around him for as long as I have, you might see something resembling feeling slip out.

Indeed, that is what happened at this precise moment. My valet’s cheeks coloured duskily and his blue eyes turned downwards, falling on his highly polished shoes.

I was scarcely sure I heard him, and he shimmered from the room soon after, but the answer came all the same:

“Work is love, sir”.

This is cute though, and perfectly good at how long it is. It's not too much at all, and not too little either. It ends where it's supposed to, and it doesn't try to stretch itself. Sometimes you just need something short and sweet. And that's exactly what this is. Short and sweet, and to the point. It's perfect really.

Beautiful. I would have to agree with smutnazi, this is a perfect length for what was expressed.

Bite-sized delicious.

Just add me to the "ditto" list, old thing! Added this sweet little bon-bon to memories, as well. Perfection.
