*nods* That works. Much less busy behind the text.

Much better.

No, the pinstripes are uncomfortable. Spacing won't help (unless you make them more subtle?). I'm sorry! I'm being a pest, I know. I mean, it's really cool you're going to the awesome effort of redesigning the look of this community for us. That's awesome! So I shouldn't even complain (I only see it on my flist anyway), but I mean... I just clicked on a random tag (like genre: drama (http://community.livejournal.com/indeedsir/tag/genre:+drama), say), and those stripes just completely cut up all the words and make it difficult to read, to the point that I would want to click away from this comm as quickly as possible if I were just visiting.

Please don't try and please just one person, though! Because it's probably just me, lol. But yeah. <3

It's a little better, but IMO it really would be much less visually distracting to have a solid color text field for posts. The pinstripes are as accents but when you're trying to read they break up the letters.

My, my, my ^^ I love pinstripes, so I'm all for this new layout!

I like them!

i love the pinstripes! they don't make it difficult for me to read the text at all, imho. it looks very classy. :)

But do we really need the lavender text? Not that it's not color-coordinated, but it's...lavender.

Great job on the background. The pinstripes look spiffy.

The "A Jeeves & Wooster Fan-Community" part is a medium violet at best on my screen and almost melts into the background. The links, usernames etc are definitely dark violet.

I have the same visual feeling when clicking on a tag. The wider pinstripes are better, but they keep breaking up the letters. Maybe trying another font type or another font colour?

Thank you for your efforts, [livejournal.com profile] mellifluous_ink :).

That's fine. Like I said, I only see this comm on my friends page, anyway. The pinstripes are a really sweet idea.

But, for the record, an iMac monitor.

Same for me. It's much lighter than dark violet. It's definitely lavender and not much darker than the background.

i don't see it as lavender, either, but even if i did, would that be so bad? given the connotations to lavender (lavender gloves and oscar wilde, i.e.), i would think it would be somewhat appropriate for this community. not to mention that it would go nicely with the purply-grey color scheme. :)

I have to agree. Solid background would make for reading things easier, but this looks so spiffy that I don't want to see it go at all, just not for the posts.

Cause this is a really spiffy layout, and I like it a lot, it's just a hair difficult to read on.

Okay, but you asked. And if it's more than one of us, then maybe it's YOUR monitor.

I've just jumped into all this and missed most of the discussion. This is much better than the magic paper, and it does look classy, but I have to admit I'm not keen on the stripes either.

It's probably worth bearing in mind that I do have a migraine at the moment - so my eyes are probably more sensitive than usual :)

Also, if it were me (and I know I would be lost if I even tried) I'd maybe go with a slightly warmer shade of grey for the background. This one's just a bit cold. It's very stylish though.

Not a big deal anyway. You can't please everyone! Mostly I'm relieved we're not sticking with magic paper - when I saw that design I wound up clicking the 'view in my style' link. It was much harder to read. Thanks for all your hard work - it does look much better than the old version (not the magic paper, the one before that). I'm really glad to see the icons on the left.

I think that's the opinion I have too, actually. SOrry, I just saw Smutnazi/innocentsmiths's post.

Lol. I just seconded smutnazi's comment, hit 'post' then lo and behold, it was done. Thanks, this is much easier to read!

By the way, mellifluous_ink, I'm a software developer - so I know what it's like to work your fingers to the bone trying to please a ton of people. Sometimes you just want to ... well. It's hard. I've got to the point where I mostly have someone else give me the gist of the feedback we get, so I don't have to hear the original tone the comments were written in! You've done a great job.

Aren't lavender and violet both posh ways of saying 'purple'? I just mean that the difference between lavender and violet is sort of a matter of personal opinion, isn't it?

I'd prefer it if the colors were a bit warmer, personally, but I do like the overall style of this.

I like what you've done with the layout. The pinstripes are a cute idea. Personally, I liked the closer together pinstripes, if it comes down to a close vote, but I'm happy with either :)

I think you could do that. I never saw the design with the narrower stripes before but now that it doesn't sit under the text you could do just about anything. The stripes are a great concept.

I feel for you, anyway. Feedback is really valuable, but it can be hard to read unless you have really thick skin. Tip: if you ever start a small business, never be a customer service rep for your own company. ;)

I'm not sure... I've been trying some combinations on Photoshop (Pantone Violet 2602 C perhaps? White?) but I found none of them satisfactory. Maybe black is the best colour after all, but... everything lavender-ish + black looks a bit sad or cold IMHO. Sorry to be so fussy *is embarrased*, I know it's impossible to please everyone. Thank you, *thank you* for your work. Anything you do will be great :).

well, that's a bit like saying maroon and pink are posh ways of saying red, isn't it? i mean, they're in the red color spectrum, but they're definitely different colors. :)

okay. Perhaps I'm just saying that I'm a philistine who doesn't know the difference between violet, lavender, lilac or purple. They're all different forms of red and blue mixed together as far as I can tell - but that's the extent of my colour expertise, I'm afraid. ;)

I'm sure Bertie would know better.

I like the stripes, but the text box dark grey is kind of oppressive.

Everyone's a critic... :D I don't really mind either way and I'm a lurker, even. Sorry!
