What ho! Another "it's so canon!" moment.

This one comes C.O. [livejournal.com profile] tootsiemuppet -- her internet is on the fritz and I am posting in her stead.

From Thank You, Jeeves:

(to Pauline:)"Mr Wooster is an agreeable young gentleman, but I would describe him as essentially one of Nature's bachelors."

Yes, I think we've heard that euphemism before ^^

Others:

"I was at school with Bertie Wooster," said Chuffy. "I like to think of it. At private school and also at Eton and after that at Oxford. He was loved by everybody."
*snerk*

"The attitude of fellows towards finding girls in their bedroom shortly after midnight varies. Some like it. Some don't. I didn't."
"one of Nature's bachelors". Right. Got it. ^_~

'Your own idea?'
'No, Jeeves's.'
I could not restrain a wistful sigh.
'Jeeves is a wonder.'

I'm sure he is.

*grins* Good stuff. :) Poor [livejournal.com profile] tootsiemuppet, not having internet! Actually, mine is going down right now. [livejournal.com profile] eor needs to do something with the server.

It works sporadically. Right now it's being very good but there are moments when everything just jams up. I'd have it checked, but that'd mean going through trouble and I'm lazy.

So I suffer! La! ^_^

*kisses your computer better*

Oh, kissing my computer now... I might get jealous.;)

We're lame this morning, it's the same old jokes. [livejournal.com profile] eor and I are poking back and forth about the computers and internet connections working sporadically, and the best we could come up with was:

"The whole Internet goes down on her."

"She must be exhausted."

Now, as to the post which we're commenting on, though - Thanks to you I've now started reading "Thank You, Jeeves," which I'd been resisting. But it's so damn slashy even in the beginning. Jeeves gives notice and Bertie's all This parting of the ways with Jeeves had made me feel a bit as if I'd just stepped on a bomb and was trying to piece myself together again in a bleak world... Poor thing. *pets Bertie* And what's with Jeeves taking a job in the country even though he doesn't like the country? I thought it was obviously to be near Bertie and have the chance to make it up. [livejournal.com profile] eor said it was to rub it in from close range - "I can get another job, but you can't live without me!"

And I had something else entirely, though leaning more toward [livejournal.com profile] eor's opinion, I think. ^_^ By making sure he had another job already, Bertie couldn't beg him to come back. If Bertie couldn't beg him to come back, he'd have to live without Jeeves for a while. Life without Jeeves would mean misery. Misery would mean getting losing/getting rid of the banjolele. Losing the banjolele would mean getting Jeeves back.

Bertie's ecstatic at having him back, Jeeves is ecstatic happy unobtrusively glad at being able to stay with Bertie, but without the banjolele. All's well as ends well and Robert's your mater's frater, so to speak.

He's a smart man, is our Jeeves.

Well, of course he would be, being "slender and willowy" and in possession of "those big blue eyes of his".

^_^ God, I love this book.

OF COURSE in *that* way. Heh. It's proof. They had orgies late into the night.

Tootsiemuppet... I have always had a thing for that recurring description of Bertie as "slender and willowy". It makes him sound like the idea love for Jeeves. ;D

*ideal love. Is what I meant... "idea love" makes it sound like some kind of weird literary relationship.

Not that I'm not saying he isn't, of course ;) (we all know better than that), but why would "slender and willowy" be the ideal love for Jeeves?

Inquiring minds and all that.

:D

Because Jeeves needs someone "slender and willowy" to abuse.

You had to ask, didn't you?

;D

Lookie! I'm here!

I still can't get over it. *happy sigh* "One of Nature's bachelors", indeed. It also amuses me that Jeeves says it. Like he's picking up on something that Bertie's completely oblivious to himself.

La! And wanting to sing "What Is This Thing Called Love?" to Jeeves when Chuffy's "stolen" him away.

Have I ever mentioned I love Plum? Because I really rather do.

Do y'all think Plum intentionally wrote him to be bi/gay/queer? Because... the more I read, the more I wonder. I know I'm a slash fan and biased, but... hm.

The rational part of my brain tends to lean towards the 'nah, of course not'... and then something like this pops along and you just wonder.

[livejournal.com profile] anima_mecanique and I just had a talk about it, actually. The thing it came down to was that Bertie doesn't seem to realise that he's supposed to fall in love with girls before getting engaged to them. He knows about marrying and all his friends fall in love but Bertie himself never really seems to do so (or if he does, he'll be over it after a good night's sleep and a nice breakfast). He's got some female friends, but they're never really that close. While, obviously, he couldn't live a day without Jeeves.
I wonder if Bertie were gay, if he'd even realise it himself. Jeeves, on the other hand, WOULD realise it. Jeeves is cautious, he'd never say or insinuate anything if he didn't believe it. Bertie's only 24, there's plenty of opportunity for him to still fall in love, yet Jeeves in all his omniscience doesn't put much faith in that. You have to wonder if he's picking up on something.

Ahh, Plum. A fangirl's dream.

I like the rationality of that explanation. Personally I think Plum was a dreadful tease, but of course that's fangirl dreaming. The "Ganymede Club" was the real clincher for me - it's so GLARINGLY... well... Ganymede!

^_^Unless Jeeves gave a lot of subtle hints. I think that was why I loved that 'Fippy Elbows In' story so much, because it was entirely believable (on top of being omg so well written)

I liked that one too. It had the perfect timbre.
