The Chap Contest Update

For those of you who were wondering, I recently received this reply from Mr. Temple of The Chap Magazine in re their Wodehouse contest:

'I regret to say that, despite some hearty efforts, the competition had to be
abandoned due to a disagreement with the provider of the prize, namely the
publisher of PG Wodehouse's paperbacks.'

Some hope, however, was given that there may still be an outcome. I shall keep you lot informed as I hear more. Did anyone else enter besides the great triedunture and myself?

WTF, Penguin? Or whoever was the publisher. What sort of disagreement could there have possibly been? Oh my stars and garters. WELP, we may never get prizes in the physical sense, but...

Hah, yeah. I told Mr. Temple that publication in the magazine would be a fine prize in itself (considering supposed members of said magazine's readership). I have not yet received a response.

By the by, are we ever going to see that submission of yours? Or have we already? :D

I'm still working on a much longer (slashier) version. What was the word count on that thing, like 2000? I barely had time to say "What ho, what ho!"

Ah, I know what you mean. I'm still not sure whether I like the shorter version of my entry more or less than the longer version, but I tend towards unnecessary verbosity anyway.

I did not, as it happens, ply the trusty quill towards this tourney, but it's certainly news to give one the pip.

Maybe it's just that the economic crisis has caused Penguin or whoever to be (as with its peers) more cautious about how it spends its money? I know one other significant trade publisher, Harcourt, I think, has announced it's holding off on accepting new fiction titles for the time being.

Hmm, but donating a handful of paperbacks to interest readers in spending more on their wares seems like a logical thing to do in times of financial woes. I just bet someone over at The Chap offended the head penguin at Penguin. :D

Ah, that's rather depressing. A massive D: indeed.

I did make a rather valiant effort of writing something for it, but it was too...cracky. I decided to scrap it and not send it in (least they think me completely mad).
