Title: The Uncertain
Rating: PG / PG-13 I guess.
Beta: Many thanks to the wonderful fstohell for being my beta on this my first foray into Jooster territory.
Length: 712
Warnings: Nothing much to warn of.
Summary: One must always think of the future. No matter how hard it might be.
The lively song was given life by Bertie’s clear voice and brought a smile to Reg’s face; he had always found it enjoyable to listen as the long fingers gently caressed the ivories. While not blessed with musical genius, he could manage to ‘carry a tune’ as it were, should the need ever arise. He would never admit to it if asked, but, he did find that tasks were always more enjoyable with bit of music to distract him.
“Hullo!?! Anybody about?” His niece had taken it upon herself to head over to the cabin that the two were sharing. “I’ve come to make sure you’re all settled in and whatnot.”
“Fantastic. Jeeves couldn’t have done better if he had picked out the cabin himself. And I suppose in a way a Jeeves did pick it out. Funny.” Bertie swung around on the piano bench to face the front door as he gave the house the seal of approval.
“We have found the lodgings very well Marie. I’m sure Mr. Wooster will give you his recommendation when he tells his friends of his stay.”
“Oh come off it Jeeves. I don’t expect you to treat you niece like she’s a stranger. Tell her how smashing you think the whole place is. I’m going to see if I can’t find something to wet the whistle.”
“You did well, dear.” He gave Marie a quick kiss on the top of her head. Pride would certainly describe the happiness that he felt, regarding his niece pushing him to take his vacation here. Her overwhelming success at making Bertie comfortable quelled the fears he had in regards towards a decision made long ago. A decision that would affect all of their lives.
“I know.” She answered as Bertie returned with a glass in hand. “So tell me the good news. You both love it so much, you’re never leaving?”
“If only. I’m afraid that would never do for old Jeeves, would it? Of course not. But it really is lovely here. Real peaceful like, just what a gent needs when he gets to be of a certain decade.”
“Mr. Wooster, you do yourself an injustice. I’m sure a bustling city has everything to make you heart content. A lady friend perhaps.”
“Marie, I don’t think…”
“Nope. No lady. Luckily Jeeves has done me the favor of keeping those kinds of entanglements from sticking. A bachelor through and through, I’m afraid. Just me and Jeeves till the very end. No matter I’m quite happy.”
“Well I should be getting back. Make sure Jeeves doesn’t keep you too busy. This is supposed to be a relaxing vacation after all.”
Bertie and Jeeves saw her to the door and waved as she crossed the street to the office.
“I rather like her, Jeeves. Though she’s nothing like any Jeeves I’ve met before. I do hope you have her ‘round again, what?”
“If you would like, sir.”
Reg was glad that Bertie had taken a liking to Marie. It would make any transitions smoother should the unthinkable become the here and now.
The next few weeks passed and Wooster and Jeeves slowly became relaxed and started fully enjoying their surroundings. There was still a strict sense of master and servant on Jeeves side of things but Bertie knew that only time would take care of that. Jeeves may never fully let them act as two equals, after over 20 years of service he still treated Bertie in the same manner as he had when he showed up at his door.
Marie came over nearly every night during the week to have supper with them. He was glad that Jeeves loosened up around the girl. It was comfortable to sit and play the piano for them with Marie’s bell-like soprano joining in when she knew the song or sit and play gin rummy by the fire. He had always wondered what it would have been like to have children. While not the exact same thing, he imagined it was very much like this. A warm and fluffy feeling in your heart, like a piece of cotton fluff filled it’s place. While the happiness was genuine, Bertie had no clue as to how serious the fluffy feeling truly was.

Drama! Suspense! The goodies keep coming. Hate to sound like a broken record but once again thank you for reading. More next week. And once again sorry for the delay. I was swamped at work Friday and didn't have a moment to get to the computer. I'll do my darnedest to try and get Part 5 posted Friday afternoon. Toodles for now!
