Angst!

Hello all. I'm a bit of a newbie to the wonderful world of P. G. Wodehouse, and am hoping for some recommendations - specifically of the angst variety. Though only familiar with Jeeves and Wooster for the past couple of weeks, I happen to read copious amounts of fanfiction, and rapidly noticed that this fandom is about as fluffy as an especially long-haired bunny. As such, what with me being an avid angst reader and all, I fear that I am on the verge of withdrawal. Thus, I have come to appeal to you lot for assistance.

As for further specifics… I would prefer that Bertie be the one suffering, though I wouldn't exactly turn down Jeeves!angst. Point of view is irrelevant, en mom avi, as long as the story itself is well done. Also, although a happy ending is desirable, it is not necessary. Please help?

I suppose the story I've been working on has some light angst. Very light really. Not meaning to plug, just trying to finish it so I can post it and move on in my writing.

You know, that is an aspect about J&W that I love really. I read it for fluff. I read other fandoms for angst. Not sure what to suggest. Good luck though.

Hi there, and welcome to [livejournal.com profile] indeedsir! I'm afraid I don't know of any pure-angst-y fics, but the darkest piece I have read in this fandom is The Tale of Abingdon Chase (http://skyblue-reverie.livejournal.com/7555.html) by [livejournal.com profile] skyblue_reverie. It's an excellent piece, but I recommend you have some tissues ready...

I might also offer the fairly long story that I have written, called Jeeves and the Artistic Verisimilitude (http://community.livejournal.com/indeedsir/303747.html). Much of it is light in tone, but there are also some sizeable Bertie-angst sections within, and a happy ending. :-)

'jeeves and the artistic verisimilitude' is one of my faaaavorite j/w stories!

there's a great story by out_there called 'jeeves and the tennis coach' which has some angst of the ust variety. it's really good, and satisfyingly long.

If you don't mind stealth-angst, you might like my Green Ice (http://www.quillsandink.com/fiction/viewstory.php?sid=1048)--if I can be forgiven for pimping my own story. There's also a sequel, Armistice (http://adina-atl.livejournal.com/103611.html), which isn't complete but the first part stands on its own. "Armistice" won't make sense if you haven't read "Green Ice," however.

Green Ice is an amazing story, you will love it. It's the sort of story that stays in the memory and has the reader thinking about it for a while afterwards.

There is another fic that I remember without remembering the title and author, perhaps others will know? It is intense, and it doesn't have a happy ending, but implies there may be one day. Angst is a slight understatement - powerful writing.

The story is about Jeeves in the glove shop, thinking about the gloves he would like to buy for Bertie that he might 'one day wear them for my pleasure', rather than the serviceable ones he ought to buy, and dreaming of his unfulfilled longing for him. He pictures a scene in his head and the story ends, 'and I pray it will be soon'. Anyone remember?

Yes! It's Jeeves in the Glove Boutique (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3265106/1/Jeeves_in_the_Glove_Boutique) by [livejournal.com profile] lucylou. Enjoy :-)

That's right, of course. So our resident artist wrote it! Well done, lucylou. Sequel? SEQUEL? :-)
