Um, in two different fics, by mechanicaljewel and innocentsmith, I've seen Jeeves' sister referred to as Daisy. I was wandering, is there a real canon mention of Jeeves' sister + her name, or is this just a concurrence in the fanfics? And if so, why Daisy ?

Well, as far as I know, there isn't actually a canon mention of Jeeves having a sister. What we do know is that he has a niece, Mabel from "The Rummy Affair of Old Biffy"; he seems to be on fairly close terms with her and presumably whichever of her parents is his sibling, as he gets called in to sympathize/strategize about her jilting, and is really quite teed off on Mabel's behalf. I figured the (unnamed) sibling was most likely a sister, as whatever Mabel's last name was it was almost certainly not Jeeves - Biffy would've remembered that.*

And then I wondered what a sister of Jeeves would be like, and the character I named Daisy showed up in my head. I picked Daisy as a name because, in one semi-canon thingamabob (a page in "Wodehouse, a Literary Biography") for which I can't find a reference to save my life, Jeeves's parents are listed as a philologist and a barmaid named Daisy. I thought this was ridiculously perfect and adopted it as part of my personal fanon, so when I was trying to think of a name for the former Miss Jeeves Daisy naturally seemed like the only choice. (Their father, of course, very properly always called her "Margaret," as does Jeeves when he wants to annoy her.)

You don't even want to know the amount of time I've spent analyzing all this nonsense. XD

* I suppose the mystery sibling could've been a half-brother by a different father, but really, why make it more complicated? I save that kind of creative rationalization for explaining the Wooster - Mannering-Phipps connection. ^_^

And I probably just subconsciously stole it from you (sorry about that). But now I'm trying to remember if there was ever a Daisy in the canon (and God's daisy chain doesn't count)

Hehe, I can just imagine Jeeves on the phone with his sister (the only one with whom he lets his guard down), telling her about Madeleine Bassett and teasing her with it, that she's not so much a star as a bug-eyed alien. And then when she gets frustrated enough with him, she retorts with "So have you told that half-wit you work for you want to sodomize him yet?" (Therefore hitting all of his buttons: Bertie, his unrequited love thereof, and coarse language) But actually she likes the image of being up in the sky, but changes the stars to diamonds, and tells her children, who tell their children, one of whom is named Lucy, who tells her kindergarten classmate Julian, who draws a picture of it and takes it home to show his dad, John, who writes a song about it.

I need sleep.

That was pretty cool. Jeeves --> John in what, three steps? Four?

Rad.

I might need to write a sequel to "Jeeves My Dear" (http://community.livejournal.com/indeedsir/262167.html#cutid1) where they discover that connection. Of course, that means I have to make the decision about whether it's Lucy Cook, Lucy O'Connell, or Lucy Richardson.

Lucy...Murchison? Much-loved niece (cousin?) of one Tony, formerly of British Intelligence?

I'm just sayin'.

Hee!
