Does anyone else get depressed watching the later episodes of the show?

I find that Bingo is a microcosm for the whole thing, going from a gormless idiot to a total user.  Like, at the beginning you really do get the feeling that the Drones just get into scrapes and Bertie is just beneficent.  But later on, when he's getting shot at more and people are just smilingly putting him through the wringer, I start getting where all those 'Bertie is secretly a ball of angst' fics come from.
