I was poking around the interwebs, and read up on this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fagging

A VERY common practice in schools of Bertie's time period. The article even mentions Eton specifically.

Now, Bertie already has ferocious aunts giving him a submissive personality, but, somehow, I don't think that accounts for all of it. I think he also may have served as someone's fag.

And I would like to think this someone was Bingo 'We-were-at-school-together' Little. Bingo, while not as abusive as Bertie's other 'friends', seems to think he is entitled to ask every favor of Bertie. It's a possible explanation. Unless it states in canon that they are the same age?

In any case, I am sure he was someone's fag, simply given the school environment and his personality.

Discuss/ giggle over terminology.

Edit:
B: You know, Jeeves, I was a valet, once.

J: Really, sir?

B: Absolutely! Well, sort of. I was a fag, you see.

J:........Indeed, sir.

Edit Also: For some reason, I picture him always burning the toast, but being rather good at shining shoes.

Going through some of my older members of my favorites list on YouTube, I saw this and thought, if she knew everything that was going on, this could be Madeline's theme tune.

Some others have graciously shared music of the era/flavor of that in which Wodehouse has set many of his stories, in particular the Jeeves & Wooster stories, and I'd like to add to the bounty.  I've also found a few other pieces that are other versions of some of the same songs that have been shared, as well as some new works.  I'll likely share some of them, too.  I'm building a lovely play list to listen to when I'm working on Jooster fic and I'd be surprised if there aren't some others with similar notions.

These two songs are from the soundtrack of the movie "Amelie" which I absolutely love.
Since I've had my head buried in ficcing, it's colored a lot of other things.  I'd, of course, heard them many times before, but suddenly, when I was listening to the soundtrack while writing, I realized these just had to go in my Jooster Mix.  So, I'm offering them to any who want to add them to their own mixes.

Guilty (Russ Columbo)  This couldn't be MORE Jooster if it tried.

Si Tu N'Étais Pas Là (Frehel)  I'm seeing a trip to Paris for Bertie and Jeeves, of course they've got to go out to a nightclub, right?  This might be one of the stage acts, non?

Please let me know if the links don't work or there's something otherwise askew.

Thanks, coves & fillies, and enjoy.

I just invented a new word:

Joostard (n.) An individual obsessed with "Jooster," the slash pairing pertaining to Bertie Wooster and Reginald Jeeves.

I'm just sayin'.

Also, I finished Carry On, Jeeves, yesterday. All ye who doubt the Jooster MUST read "Bertie Changes His Mind" to get Jeeves' perspective on Bertie. It is, if I may take advantage of the whole Stephen Fry thing, Quite Interesting.

Title: Jeeves and the Frantic Fiancee
Rating: NC-17
Disclaimer: Jeeves and Wooster belong to Wodehouse, not to me.
A/N: This is the third story in the Sleepwalking Wheeze series, all of which can be found on my journal if you really need something to read. I'd like to thank my beta, [livejournal.com profile] chaoschick13 , for editing this story and for allowing me to use the drabble that started the whole wheeze. All mistakes belong to me. As always, if you find them, I will fix them. I wish I knew how to make that thingie that goes over the first 'e' in fiancee. Story is posted in two parts because of length.
