Little question. Were Bertie and Jeeves' ages ever mentioned?

I mean, Bertie's somewhere in his twenties, obviously. But Jeeves? I've seen the most diverse things. Is there anything in the books?

Bertram (says the canon fiend) can be calculated at twenty-four. I arrived at this number by circuitous but reliable means: "that was about half a dozen years ago," then a story about having been caught smoking a certain number of years ago from *that* time. I'm quite sure of my mathematical equation.

As far as Jeeves goes, I've been going over the canon with a fine-tooth comb for years, and the closest description to be found is in the obscure The Return of Jeeves (in which Bertram doesn't even appear): "The man who entered-- or perhaps one should say shimmered into-- the room was tall and dark and impressive. He might have been one of the better-class ambassadors or the youngish High Priest of some refined and dignified religion. His eyes gleamed with the light of intelligence, and and his finely chiseled face expressed a feudal desire to be of service." This, if you are unfamiliar with tRoJ, is told to us by a third-person narrator, and so can be relied upon as Plum's opinion rather than a character's. Bear in mind that High Priests would generally be older, so I usually interpret "youngish" as meaning that he is at least in his forties.

Pass it around.

Heh! I like when people build me shrines.

Yes, "finely chiseled" is great to know, because for a couple of years there, the pop culture "Hey, Jeeves is unattractive" message was getting to me, and I was doubting my gut.

That book isn't the best; Plum was trying something different, to see if Jeeves could survive without Bertie to narrate him. My reviews are mixed, mostly negative. It's good so far as comic novels go, but no J/W chemistry?! Please!

It's weird to read, too, because I think Plum finally let some modernity creep into this one. I believe there was a television. ::shudder::

No, it's not pre-Bertie. Bertie is mentioned in about a total of a page and a half, in that he's been sent away to a school that teaches the idle rich how to fend for themselves in case the Revolution comes LOL.

No, he goes off to be temporarily in the employ of Lord Towcester (pronounced "Toaster"), who has your typical Wodenovel problems.

Jeeves *did* surprise me in this one, though. He dresses up like a skanky bookie to help the guy.

British pronounciation continues to entertain me. "Toaster" indeed.

There's probably room for a fanfic about poor Bertram W. W. fending for himself....

And it took a while for me to get it in my head that it was pronounced Woodhouse, not Woadhouse.

Really?? See, now there's the problem with reading everything and not interacting with people who know in RL.

Oh, right, right! That was the first Wodehouse I ever read! Actually, I really liked it! Hmm, I'd like to read it again to see if I notice the difference between that and the others. I'm sure it'll seem lackluster now that I've read the Bertie-narrated ones.

Right now I'm on The Small Bachelor and it is ha-LAR-i-ous...
