OYKEY DOYKEY! I some splendiferouse news! Somebody over at House_Wilson (The wonderful elva_barr) has got ahold of an entirly free, downloadable html version of Hugh Laurie's 'The Gun Seller'!

That book is wonderous! The main charecter is exactly like Bertie would have been, if he had not had Jeeves, and if he had been poor, hapless(well hes that anyway) ex soldier who has to make a living on his own. It's a wonderful read, if you like Jeeves N Wooster, you will adore it. if you love james Bond type of adventures as well, you will worship it.

So anyway, if you want a copy, just leave a comment with your email addresse at the post im directing you to with the following link.

And it would be nice to thank elva_barr, as she is extremely nice to be spending her time dishing out errant novels to the poor obsessed souls of LJ.

This book is wonderful. I'm a hypocrite for saying this, what with the entry I just wrote, but if you love it after reading it for free and you have extra cash to throw around, totally buy it if you can find it. It's seriously good. And funny as hell. And sad. And... and... and! So good. Hugh Laurie = smart as a frickin' whip.

Just to emphasize -- yay downloading for free, but I actually love this book so much that I'm doing the whole "Encourage Hugh Laurie to write more with your wallet if you can afford to!" thing. Not that he's, y'know, languishing in poverty what with House or anything.

Now, back to my regularly scheduled hypocrisy. And thank you for the link.

I believe he has another book coming out next year. I wonder if it's a sequel or a stand alone.

It really is a good book. Usually I'm not a fan of thrillers, but this one is hilarious and Lang, the main character, is absolutely lovable. And while you can absolutely see the influence Wodehouse had on Hugh Laurie's writing, I'm going to disagree with wemblee and say that Thomas Lang is very un-Bertie like. For one thing, he's competent and quick thinking in a jam.

I'm glad I own a copy, so I don't get eye strain staring at my computer. On the other hand, it cost me 23 dollars (for a paperback!), so I can understand not wanting to pay for it. Either way, I own enough bootleg stuff that it would be hypocritical for me to tell everyone to buy it and not download it. How about- if you can buy it, do so.

That wasn't me! I think he's sort of... there's definitely a Wodehouse/Bertie influence, but it's definitely a mix, and he's definitely more jaded, competant, and definitely more dangerous.

That's sort of what I was trying to say, but you said it better.

I think his next book is unrelated but he is working on turning The Gun Seller into a screenplay. That really would make an excellent movie. Of course I'd say Hugh would have to play Lang, but he doesn't seem the sort of fellow who'd write a movie and then star in it. Far to modest and down to earth for that...

Aside from all that stuff, it's an excellent book. I owe the Library about $18,983 because I haven't returned it yet...
