Speculation post.

Where would you see Bertie and Jeeves in the future? Canonically speaking *cough*. I just mean, can you envision Bertie ever getting married? Things like that. Little toddler Woosters running around? Or would he be indeed as Jeeves claims "not the marrying type" and happily live in his London flat for the rest of his life under the care of Jeeves?

All slashy-thoughts aside (well, most of them *g*), I can't see Wooster ever getting married. First, Jeeves would never approve. Second, Jeeves destroyed Wooster's entry into the club book, signifying that he was not expecting to leave and Wooster agreed. Third, Wooster enjoys his bachelor life too much. If Wooster ever did get married, I can see him being divorced in a few years. I can picture him happy in Britain, Europe, the US, or Canada (depending on where he gets exiled next), and Jeeves being there until the end. And more depressingly, I don't picture Wooster living much longer after Jeeves. At this point, whether or not they are lovers is immaterial. They have been partners (of a sort) for a long time, albeit one more dependent on the other than vise versa, and when one dies, the other often does, too.

Really? I've seen speculation as to their age, but from what I've read of the books my impression is that Jeeves is not that much older than Wooster. (I'm saying this not having read all of the books.) It could be that I'm influenced by the tv show, but I've always thought of Jeeves as maybe ten-fifteen years older than Wooster. The way Wooster describes Jeeves makes me think of someone who is still in their prime.

It is somewhat difficult to peg their ages, since time, the time-line, and age in the books are not always defined (nor do they need to be either, which is the beauty of the thing). I think that I can canonically justify J&W at being ten-fifteen years apart.

I'll do my best to justify it using canon. It may take a few days (I'm supposed to be writing my thesis right now), but I'll see what I can come up with.

Thread hijack! *g*

Just wanted to poke my nose in and say that, according to Benny Green's "Wodehouse: A Literary Biography", Jeeves was born in 1881 (the same year as Wodehouse himself, incidentally). And if we assume that Bertie's 23 or 24 when they meet in 1919 (his age is referenced somewhere in "Carry On Jeeves", IIRC), then Bertie was born in 1895 or so. So the 10-15 year age gap is about right.

Thank you, thank you! I knew I got it from somewhere. Now I don't have to worry so much.

I had reason to research Jeeves's age rather closely, for a forthcoming story. *looks shifty*
