Bertie, Jeeves and alcohol
Jul. 3rd, 2015 07:27 pmWhat ho! Firstly, listen to this very funny Wooster-themed sketch... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=afAwEOIeWj4
Then tell me what you think?
The idea that Jeeves is "poisoning" Bertie by "keeping him addicted to alcohol" is quite extreme, but not at all outside of the cannon, I think. The amount Bertie drinks and smokes do occasionally make me shudder while I'm reading, but I assume that the work just exists frozen in time, in a world where nothing has bad consequences, so characters can drink and drink and have it treated humorously without it ever reaching addiction or health damage.
Nonetheless, this sketch gives an interesting spin on the whole thing.
