“Mr. Barrow.” Reginald Jeeves paused by the bar to greet his fellow Ganymedeian.
Jee… Mr. Jeeves.” Thomas caught himself before an unforgivable informality could cross his lips. “I had not hoped to see you.” And he had hoped. For all their past… tensions… Reg and his iron training had been – perhaps literally – life saving. At minimum, career saving.
“Lord Yaxley returned last evening.” From his Uncles funeral, that detail understood if unspoken.
“I hope all is well,” Thomas offered politely. Not that he gave a toss about the departed rabbit fancier, but he did hold a fondness for Bertram W. Wooster.
“Physically, the estate is well enough.” Jeeves guided them to a table in the far corner. “The staff, however, is…
“Dreadful?”
“I was going to say disastrous, but your term will suffice.” He poured two glasses from the waiting bottle. “Absent is also apt. Between the geriatric dementia of the remnant butler and the slapdash hires made by the probate agent?”
Thomas Barrow shuddered fastidiously. He had observed – if thankfully not endured – the sort of servants selected long-distance by London estate managers.
Jeeves nodded in agreement. “It is evident that we shall have to restaff from the kitchen up.”
“If I can be of assistance?” Not that Thomas deluded himself that a manager of Jeeves’ standing would ever require help from a country underbutler, but club etiquette made the offer appropriate.
“I had hoped you would say that.”
Jeeves smiled.
Thomas knew he was in for it.
“I could find the competent.” Stress on the last word cast doubt, but it was a doubt as to the worthiness of the employed rather than on Jeevesian perception. “Lord Yaxley’s comfort, however, will require very… specific… traits and habits in his personal staff. Habits you might be better… positioned… to observe.”

With the list’s kind indulgence.
Which characters, be they from the actual media of the 1920’s and 1930’s or even 1940’s (movies, books, etc) or of later media set in the J&W era, would you suggest as potential employees or the ‘gaieties’ of Chez Wooster?
One need not cast for an orgy (although I do not discount the potential… however much I suspect Jeeves would) but simply find suitable persons to work in the rather unorthodox structure of Yaxley Manor.
Responses can be drabble-ish, our you can simply post a suggestion and I will (time and weak muse allowing) try to come up with the interview.

And yes – this is TOTALLY a tribute to ‘Jeeves and the Inferior Valet, or Thomas and the Kindest Man in England’ by Alex51324 – although used without permission and I’m (so far) only stealing an excuse for the mutual membership at the Jr. G. Those otherwise inclined can assume that Thomas and Reginald met at a summer school for valets, or whatever.
