The Adventures of Sally

I'm trying once again to explore a bit more of Wodehouse's massive oeuvre, and I've recently started reading The Adventures of Sally! It's fascinating to read a Wodehouse story with a female protagonist (which was also the case, iirc, in The Old Reliable -- but it's been a long time since I read that one). Sally is appealing, and while she has some Mary Sue-esque qualities (Extremely pretty, except that her mouth is a little "too wide"! Everyone loves her!), she has an interesting enough personality that these traits are forgivable. She's hilariously sarcastic, has a reasonably high opinion of herself (which is not a bad thing, IMO) and is also very pushy/nosy, albeit in a well-meaning way.

Have any of you read this one? Any thoughts on what would come of a meeting between Bertie and Sally? I think he'd like her, but I wonder if she'd take it upon herself to get all up in his business . . . although perhaps as a supporter of a Jeeves/Wooster alliance? *swats plot bunnies*

It sounds like it would make a great story, Bertie and Sally meeting, and her trying to fix up Bertie and Jeeves, yes it does.

It's absolutely the sort of thing she would do! Of course, Bertie would probably somehow end up accidentally engaged to her at some point anyway (although it wouldn't be her fault -- I don't think he's quite her type).

Interestingly, in the Sallyverse uncles are more of a problem. Perhaps there would be some kind of horrific conspiracy of uncles and aunts.

It would be hilarious - esp if both Sally and Bertie were trying to arrange a 'yearning hearts united' for two ( or more) of their friends. And of course Bertie gets in the way of Sally's great schemes and vice-versa. The only trick would be finding a second for Sally - equal to the position of Jeeves for Bertie (or perhaps Bertie for Jeeves - depending on if Sally is the brainy one) - because otherwise the 'tag team' would be just too unfair.

I haven't gotten far enough into the book to know for sure, but it looks pretty clear that Sally is going to be paired off with someone by the end! So she would have a partner in crime, presumably. And at this point it does look like she's the brains of the pair, too.
