A small question
Nov. 2nd, 2005 10:56 amI say, could someone help an ignorant Norwegian: How is Wodehouse pronounced? Is the first 'o' pronounced as in 'toad' or as in 'wood'?
Thanks ever so much.
Edit: I am no longer confused. Thank you all:)

Date: 2005-11-02 12:11 pm (UTC)The Brits are well known for their weird-ass name pronunciations, c.f. Chomondeley (Chumley), Featherstonhaugh (Fernshaw), etc. See also the Monty Python sketch:
Interviewer: Good evening. I have with me in the studio tonight one of Britain's leading skin specialists - Raymond Luxury Yacht.
Raymond: That's not my name.
Interviewer: I'm sorry - Raymond Luxury Yach-t.
Raymond: No, no, no - it's spelt Raymond Luxury Yach-t, but it's pronounced 'Throatwobbler Mangrove'.
