Yes -- we do need some sort of (totally tasteful) porn forum -- there is much male loveliness from the 1910s and 20s... I was vaguely thinking of making a tumblr for it (except I don't really know how that works exactly) ... it could be called "What ho! attractive chaps" or something (I know "what ho!" is not the precise tumblr naming convention, but Aunt Agatha would wash our mouths out with soap and *then* sacrifice us at the full moon if we use the conventional nomenclature. She might be fictional, but I wouldn't risk it!

Holy moly, the most basic of those razors would be worth about $120 today, according to an inflation calculator I just found. The fancy sets come out to about $1,190.50. That's insane! If that was the going price for safety razors back in the day, maybe that's the real reason Jeeves got so fussy when Bertie neglected to use his.

Agreed that the fancy sets seem like a lot... however, just think of how much you'd save if you did not have to pay the barber or valet to shave you with a straight razor... The basic razor would pay for itself in a less than a year...and I imagine that the people of the ton would have had more expensive barbers? Or is this all rot?

It probably is way too much for a razor, but I think I would buy anything that the man in the ad suggested. I really can't think at all in the presence of that illustration.

I was delighted to see that, in the original Bertie-Grows-a-Mustache-and-Jeeves-Flips-Out story (the title escapes me right now), Bertie asks Jeeves to shave the mustache off of him at the end. Too bad they left that little detail out of the TV version.
