I've been idly thinking about this for a few years (seriously), and I'm interested to know what you guys think. Obviously Bertie and Jeeves are the OTP (if you'll excuse my use of annoying "fandom" acronyms), but I think that if Jeeves were to procreate with Mary Poppins, they would make the perfect offspring. Perfect as in polite, intelligent, proper, caring (not outwardly, though, at least in public), and many other adjectives. What do you think?

Mary Poppins is quite a tough old bird. Fun, but tough. However, I see where you're coming from, though I'm unwilling to break up Jeeves and Bertie! Perhaps Mary (herself in a happy same-sex relationship with.....who?) could come to Jeeves with the proposal that he donate sperm to assist in her procreative efforts. And then he and Bertie could both be godparents!

With the wife/mother, of course! : D

But Mary isn't into perfect proper guys. She likes her men a little rough around the edges and dancing on rooftops.

I think Jeeves would heartily disapprove of Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious. It's the linguistic equivalent of one of Bertie's ties.

I imagine Jeeves being quite dismayed at meeting Bert.

In fact, that's quite the plot bunny there - Bert and Bertie being swapped and the aggravation they would cause their prim companions.

Genes don't really determine anything but 'tameness' (vs wildness), as far as provable behavioural traits. Certainly genes can mean one is predisposed to behaviours (depression, etc) but environment determines how those tendencies manifest.

In short, I think your theory is a little flawed and should be fleshed out more. What do you mean by putting forth that you feel they would make offspring with those traits? Is this assuming both would raise the children and are adept at teaching? Is this book!Poppins or film/musical!Poppins?

Hmmm, that´s interesting... It would be awesome, but I agree with dogwoodblossom, though. Their discussion of the word would be... Interesting, to say the least. :P

I´d never break up Jeeves and Bertie, but I do like to think that before meeting the young master he had plenty of affairs. Mary Poppins could really have been one of them...

As a fan of Torchwood, I also love to think of Jeeves as being Ianto´s grandfather. They´re too much alike not to be related. =) In the crossover family tree I made up Ianto´s mother is the result of an affair between Jeeves and a daughter of Irene Adler and her husband.

I...just imagined JA as Mary Poppins and SF as Jeeves...procreating the progeny >_<

OTOH, Mary seems kind of too good-natured and independent for Jeeves. Also, have strong doubts about Jeeves` capabilities as a dad. Sorry if it seems that I have bad opinion on him, I swear I don`t!

I'd be, quite honestly, afraid of a child with Marry Poppins and Jeeves as it's parent's.

It'd wind up becoming the Nanny from the Omen, I think.

Ooo, interesting!! Mary Poppins is a magical-type creature of some sort...maybe she *is* Jeeves! She just changed shape in order to take care of Bertie!

Hmmm...we may be onto something here. Think about the unearthly ability to clean up messes in the blink of an eye, the magic medicine, the devotion to umbrellas. Uh, okay. Maybe not the last one.

Anyway, cute idea! I think a fic dealing with the subject would make light, attractive reading. :)

I feel that, given how astounding both Jeeves and Mary Poppins are in their demeanor (and going with your assumption that these traits are conferred by genetics rather than upbringing), it is fair to say that the majority of these traits would be located on recessive genes, or perhaps on a section of chromosome that has recombined in these two individuals to line up all of the 'perfect' genes in an expressible locus. Given this assumption, it is fair to say that other recessive genes are also present in these individuals in a homozygous manner. As a result, any potential offspring would be sick little (possibly inbred) bunnies indeed.

only the book version of Mary Poppins, who is a good deal less cloying than the Disney version (she even drinks rum punch!)

That would be hilarious. Bert would be tracking stuff everywhere... Jeeves would slowly realize that that black coat was originally a light grey.

Bertie and Mary would get along though I bet. Bertie is always up for games, and he loves sing-a-longs.

I was also totally thinking of the Omen. Except I was thinking of Damien. Using the psychology of the individual for pure evil.

But wouldn't that make Jeeves the devil, then?

Jeeves may be quite possibly sociopathic, but he's not exactly pure evil.

Which reminds me of a horribly twisted theory a friend and I came up with while intoxicated one day: Bertie and Jeeves, if they somehow had a child, would likely be the grandparents of Patrick Bateman. Patrick Bateman is the perfect combination of Bertie and Jeeves with an injection of pure crazy.

I've given this some thought, because, well, it's a fantastic question. I do think, though, that any offspring between Jeeves and Ms. Poppins would probably would end up ruling the world like benevolent dictators. It wouldn't be so bad. We'd all be polite, dress correctly and no one would feel the need to raise his or her voice.

Also, I once thought that Jeeves should be paired with Miss Kitty from Gunsmoke. Matt Dillon might have objected, but Jeeves could take him. Festus would fight his days numbered, however.

Yes, I'm that old.
