Hi thar podfic-thinky person, I just wanted to link you to the post I wrote when I got myself a USB mic not long ago. It´s a bit sensitive when you have "p"s in a word but you can adjust to that easily. I like the mic very much.
I use Audacity (one of the Mac versions didn´t work for me, so I had to pick the other one (the older? I´m not sure.) I tried GarageBand but IMHO it´s mostly there for looking pretty and recording a simple is agony for me. http://cadeira.livejournal.com/28038.html#cutid1
