Beta request?
Jan. 21st, 2009 01:12 amOne, anyone want to beta for me? I'm finally sucking up the old smutnazi pride and giving in to a beta...seeing as first person is easily the hardest tense for me to write, and combined with the Wodehouse style, it's damn near impossible to get a decently written fic out that doesn't have it's fair share of glaring errors. It's one thing when writing a third-person character sketch of sorts one-shot which is what 80% of my other fic is, it's another to branch out and suddenly find yourself in a fandom with actual mature people who aren't afraid to point out errors and don't just simply write "MOAR" without caring about the little things in life like grammar. (And as a stupid yank, who grew up with the "whole language" phenomenon who never was actually taught more than noun=object, verb=action and adjective=description, I'm rather pitiful at grammar. I've learned more grammar studying French than I ever did studying English.)
Please? Pretty please with sugar on top? If only for the once-over on grammar.
Also, anyone interested in a very dark, angsty, Hemingway-styled piece? (Dealing with how Bertie and Jeeves have changed since WWII, told from the POV of an original narrator.) it's a lot darker than most of what i've seen here, and since it breaks from the Wodehouse style so drastically, I figured i'd gauge interest before posting it up.

Date: 2009-01-21 07:13 am (UTC)One thing I can do for you, if you like, is to trawl through anything you've written and point out anything that might be an Americanism, and what the probably British equivilant would be. I'm not an Americanism nazi, and wouldn't want you to think that I'm snobby about it, but being a former English person (by which I mean, I haven't lived there for 8 years but I think I've still got the basic grasp of the differences) I can probably be useful to you there if you think you might need it. If you'd like that kind of help, I'd be only too happy.
Curious about your post WW2 piece - I'm working on one myself, though it's not a first person narrative. Bertie and Jeeves have their separate experiences then meet up again for a big old angst-fest. Ooh, I do love my angst. Funny you're working on a war piece as well. I've got the basic scenario down and now I'm just bringing it to its conclusion, so I can promise to look at yours without 'borrowing' ideas. :)
