Hey guys.

We really don't want to do this, but we're going to have to turn on IP logging for a little while.

Some of you may have noticed earlier a number of posts reccing the same fic.  All posts were from different usernames, but all of the accounts were created today within hours of each other.  I've deleted the duplicate rec posts, but, in the interest of fairness, I left up the original.  If we discover that indeed all of those accounts are from the same IP, we will confer on the action we will take.

Let's make this clear: spamming is against the LJ TOS and is a bannable offence.  However, we all make mistakes, and therefore we are willing to be lenient on first offences.

Also, I really hope that we are not so intimidating a comm that people feel the only way to get their fics out there and read is to create artificial hype around them.  In my experience, everyone here is eager to read and review every fic that comes in here.  If you are worried about criticism, we were all new writers once, we understand it can be scary, but reviews and criticism are part of the process.  And in all my years as a member here, I have never seen a single review that was at all cruel.  We are nice people, we will not bite!  Please, post as yourself-- you'll get more out of this comm being one person than you would being five.

ETA:  Oh, dear.  I'm going to add this on here rather than make a new post, so as to keep the ugliness to a minimum.  I have had to ban one of the usernames we were keeping an eye on, not because of anything involving their IP, but because it was brought to my attention that a fic they claimed to have written was in fact plagiarized.  Plagiarism is not only unethical and a wank-magnet, but dash it, it simply isn't sporting!

I love this comm, purely (apart from the Jooster, of course) because there is so little drama, if any, here. It's like a little sanctuary :3

I think maybe this person just wasn't aware of the ins and outs of the rules on Livejournal. I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. :]

Hear hear! I think this is a good idea. It's too bad our little community has gotten a bit of weirdness, but I guess that means it's catching on, which is good!

Seriously. After cruising [livejournal.com profile] fandomsecrets, I am truly convinced that the rest of the world's fandoms are, indeed, batshit and we are one of the few sane oasises. (I'm looking at YOU, Naruto.)

Although, I will admit, one of my favorite things about the Potter fandom was the sheer amount of crack that gets passed around.

Whomping Willow/Ford Anglia.

Go, HP fandom.

Since you're standing right here, I *just* read "Patience of a Saint" and ADORED IT. We are so lucky to have you writing for us. Thanks very much. <3

Nice to see that measures have been received, I hope things will work out and there won't be any other such incidents... Image

I'm mostly new and on lurker mode but I love it here because it's easy to find tones of good stuff and also most people are cool to hang around so I too can't see why should someone turn to such tactics to promote their work...Image
Also I like recs and I wish people will continue reccing stuff that isn't directly posted on the comm in a sensible way...

Finally a big thank you to the moderators for maintaining the sense of peace here! Image

Tru dat- and the same goes for art as well, which people are incredibly supportive of! :3

This comm. is my favourite because everyone is so awesome and chill and there is no wank and pretty much all the fics and art are so freakin' amazing. So props to everyone. :D

I was enjoying it too, until the smiley guy died at the end. That made me sad. But then he came back! But then he died again! It's an emotional rollercoaster.

Up until recently I was hopelessly addicted to this community and never thought I'd tire of it. [livejournal.com profile] indeedsir is by no means 4-chan or SomethingAwful, but that's because Wodehouse fans generally are of--let's say, a different stamp.

I honestly didn't expect people to make fake posts mocking my rec drama (it's something I've seen happen on, say, [livejournal.com profile] fanficrants or I don't know, a number of feminist communities), and I feel a little let down by how immature people are being when I'm trying to maintain a sense of humour and stick up for myself without being intentionally confrontational.

Go ahead and look at my IP all you like--I've really got nothing to hide.

Kind of reminds me of the first time the Good Omens LJ community had a little kerfluffle. Yeah, I was super uncomfortable for that, too.

Thanks for taking action.

What ho, Cicero!
Or Ave, Cicero!
Or Χαίρε, Κικέρων!

Nice to have you back with the living, I hope you got over the savageness of your end...you were a witty fellow (though a little uppish as some say) and thanks to you we have western culture as we know it today...and I'm absolutely looking forward to seeing you around!
Also am I glad to see you pouring your vast talents of writting on one of my favourite fandoms!

Stupidity always keeps recurring, so I can promise you that the smilie fellow will always be with every single of us!
After-all, it was Einstein who so nicely put it:'Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the universe.'

Nah, Harry/Sirius is really tame.
Poor Snape. He bloody IS the fandom bicycle.

And yeah, fanon > HP canon 1000 times.

Sorry, I was *not* trying to infer that the mods were mocking me. I guess it seems paranoid, but I have seen a lot of wank in [livejournal.com profile] fanficrants or [livejournal.com profile] feminist or [livejournal.com profile] bad_rpers_suck or, I don't know, pretty much any Final Fantasy community and I guess I just assumed the accustomed pattern still held. Basically, someone makes a post and then someone else takes offense and makes their own post illustrating through satire why the original poster was (apparently) wrong. (I.E. - Someone in [livejournal.com profile] feminist discusses a proposed ban of religious items in schools and why she thinks it's okay to wear a necklace with a cross on it to school but not a headscarf because those are a form of oppression. So another person makes a similar post an hour or so later about how the fact that most North American businesses require women to wear shirts is a violation of basic human rights....)

I guess I figured someone was trying to fan the flames to see what happened because in LJ drama, that's how things normally escalate.

I could just be making assumptions, however. I didn't even see the flurry of posts, just figured out what went on afterward. It could have been a complete coincidence, in which case I'm over-reacting.

Basically, I thought someone was posting fake fake fic recs to try and cause a crackdown on yours truly.
